First, completely clean the rifle, espeP cially the barrel and chamber area. Manufacturers treat those and other metallic parts with a rust inhibitor prior to rifles leaving the factory. You'll want to remove that protective coating. Once you're using and maintaining the rifle, it's no longer necessary. And if left on the rifle, it's likely to become sticky, pick up dirt and create unwanted resistance. For cleaning, there are some specific tools you'll want to use.
