But if that elk is big, Kammerdiener's
is monstrous.
It stands as the second-largest elk
ever taken with any implement here.
Only the nontypical harvested by
Duane Kramer, of Bellingham, Wash.,
with a rifle in 2020 is larger. Kramer's
bull came from Elk County and scored
455-0/8.
The all-time world record nontypical
archery elk is a Utah bull taken in 2008
that scored 478-5/8. Kammerdiener's
bull ranks No. 7.
Kammerdiener - who drew his elk
tag in his 21st year of applying - got
his elk with the help of Trophy Rack
Lodge guide Matt Lutz. Nicknamed the
" Dagger Bull, " it has 11 points on one
side, 7 on the other.
The bull wasn't an unknown. Lutz
chased it for two years, Kammerdiener
has said. But it proved elusive.

visitor center auditorium for " The Great Hiking
Trails of Pennsylvania, " and learn about the
state's amazing long-distance hiking trails from
the statewide organization that advocates for
their responsible use, care and protection. Take
a virtual tour of well-known trails such as the
Appalachian Trail and North Country Trail and
lesser-known, more-remote trails such as the
Chuck Keiper and Donut Hole. This program is
free and no RSVP is needed.

Point archery range for " Archery is for Everyone!, "
a program teaching the basics of archery
equipment and shooting techniques. Do you like
sharpening your senses, challenging yourself or
maybe the thrill of competition? Archery can
provide you with all these things. This program

15 minutes before legal shooting time
ended, when Lutz and another guide
called it in.
Kammerdiener's bull, while incredibly
special, is only the latest and
largest in a run of big bulls falling to
archery hunters in recent years.
Hunters have always been able to
use archery gear to hunt elk in Pennsylvania,
since the season relaunched
in 2000. And some did go that route.
But Pennsylvania's archery-only elk
season started in 2019.
Five of the seven typical elk taken
with a bow - including the record, a
2021 bull scoring 381-1/8 taken in Centre
County by Christopher Sebulsky,
of Pennsylvania Furnace in Huntingdon
County - and all six bulls in the
nontypical archery category have been
harvested since then.
