Hit animals can be unpredictable, especially if we make a less-than-desirable or uncertain shot. Sometimes we're afforded the luxury of seeing an animal fall and expire within sight. Most often that isn't the case. And once they disappear, it can be difficult to judge exactly what happened and how best to proceed, especially with emotions running high. But you can tip the odds of recovery in your favor and increase the chance of notching your tag instead of enduring the heartbreak of losing an animal. The way to do that is by focusing on what comes after the shot. That's just as important as what transpires before the arrow leaves the string.
