The colleges and universities in this section are just a small sample of schools. Choosing an institution of higher learning is a big decision,
but once you weigh factors such as finances, field of study, and location, that hard choice becomes easier. So read all the information you can,
discuss with counselors, teachers, family, and friends, and visit as many schools as possible - because sometimes, a place just feels right.

estled in the valley of Manoa, only minutes from Oahu's
breathtaking Waikiki Beach, lies the University of
Hawaii at Manoa, the flagship campus of the University
of Hawaii system. Founded in 1907 with only five
freshmen and five preparatory students, UH Manoa is
now home to more than 13,000 undergraduate and
5,000 graduate students. In addition to being the most
diverse flagship university in the United States, UH
Manoa is widely known for its academics, athletics, and
research opportunities.
The university's 15 colleges and schools offer 100 bachelor's
degree programs, 85 for master's students, and 58 for professional
and doctoral students. Electrical, mechanical, and civil engineering;
marine biology; microbiology; chemistry; astronomy; and geology
and geophysics are but a few of the STEM-focused majors. UH

Manoa is especially well known for its geosciences programs;
the U.S. News & World Report 2015 Best Global Universities
ranked the university 28th in the world in that field.
UH Manoa's island location allows for exciting and
unique STEM-focused research. In fact, UH Manoa is
one of the few universities nationwide recognized as a
land-, sea-, and space-grant institution. The university
facilitates research programs through generous funding
- the National Science Foundation (NSF) ranked UH
Manoa in the top 50 public universities for research expenditures.
The University of Hawaii Cancer Center, the Hawaii Institute of
Marine Biology, and the Pacific Biosciences Research Center are but
a few of the state-of-the-art research centers available to UH Manoa
students. The school also keeps students and faculty up to date on
UH Manoa research news through the online publication Kaunana.
