philanthropy and you Celebrate Horace Mann School’s 125th Anniversary by Sharing … Your Stories or all those who are part of the life of Horace Mann School today the storied history of this 124-year-old school is an ever-present partner in HM’s pursuit of academics, athletics, the arts, and activities that dictate the rhythm of every day. That history is visible in the fieldstone façade of Tillinghast Hall, in the entryway display of books by generations of alumni authors, in the posters naming cast members from decades past that line the Theater Department hallways, and in the trophies in our athletic offices. History is audible, also, in Tillinghast Hall’s Baruth Room classroom, where animated discussions echo the passion students brought to their literary analyses forty, fifty, sixty years ago and more. And it can be heard these days as students sing the Alma Mater after every Horace Mann School assembly. Education at Horace Mann today has its roots in the school’s tradition of academic excellence and enriched co-curricular life. But the stories of Horace Mann School’s storied past originate with you. In the coming year Horace Mann will celebrate its 125th anniversary, with a series of events and observations that will both commemorate this momentous occasion, and connect the school’s history to life at Horace Mann today. We invite you to join the commemoration by participating in as many anniversary events as possible, and by continuing to support the school through your generosity to the Annual Fund. We also ask you to share your stories of your days at 64 Horace Mann Magazine Spring 2011 F Horace Mann School—stories of your teachers, your classes, your friends, and your athletic triumphs. We would love to hear from those of you who sat in class in the era of WWII, and from graduates of the Horace Mann School for Girls who became pioneers as women in an array of professions. We’d like to read about the lives and careers the men of Horace Mann built in the 1950s, or what it was like to experience the societal changes of the 1960s from the vista of the Horace Mann School campus. Today’s students and faculty are interested in reading accounts of HM’s return to co-ed classes in the mid-1970s, and learning how you were introduced to computer technology in the 1980s, or how you experienced outdoor education at Dorr. Tell us, finally, about your experiences during the recent decade of reconstruction, when HM’s Middle Division was created, and arts education found a distinctive home at Horace Mann. The War Years, the Girls’ School Years, the Gratwick Years, The Sixties, the Co-Ed Years, The Year of the Trailers—whichever was your time at Horace Mann, please share with us the thoughts they bring to mind. We, in turn, will share these with the entire Horace Mann School community through a link to be established on www.horacemann.org  designated to celebrating Horace Mann School’s 125th year. In the meantime, please send your stories to alumni@horacemann.org and join in the celebration. $ http://www.horacemann.org
