premiered by the Chicago Composers
Orchestra in 2013. His solo piano work
"Common Threads" was included in the AIDS
Quilt Songbook @20 concert in 2012. Founder

Consortium Larry was a member of CUBE
Contemporary Chamber Ensemble. The highly
successful opera appreciation classes he
teaches in Santa Fe each summer became a

Jon Goldwater has brought new life (and
after-life) to the famous Archie Comics series,
founded in 1941 by his father John L. Goldwater.
From introducing Kevin Keller, a gay member of
the Archie universe, to orchestrating the drama around Archie's marriage to both Betty and
Veronica-in alternate universes-to Archie's
death and afterlife, to publishing an "Occupy
Riverdale" number, the alumnus has kept
characters current. "Archie" celebrated the
75th anniversary of the first comic's publication
on December 22, 2016. Since its launch Archie
Comics grew into one of the most successful,
longest-running brands in the history of the
comic industry, selling over two billion comics
published in a dozen languages and distributed
worldwide. "Archie Meets the Ramones" was
the hit of New York Comic Con in October 2016.
The Archie enterprise also spawned the TV
series "Sabrina the Teenage Witch" and "Josie
and the Pussycats." The latest Archie spin-off
show "Riverdale" premiered on January 26,
2017 on CW. The teen drama is a gritty take
on the classic Archie Comics universe that
has been compared to "Twin Peaks." The cast
includes K.J. Apa, Luke Perry, Cole Sprouse,
Lili Reinhart, Mädchen Amick, and more. A one
shot "Riverdale" comic, published on March 1,

Filmmaker and architect Madeline Schwartzman

launched her new book See Yourself X at two
events in New York City in October 2016. (see
Bookshelf p. 40). Prof. Schwartzman is a long
term Adjunct Professor at Barnard College
where she teaches architectural design and
video production. She is also senior faculty at Parsons: the New School for Design.
Schwartzman's films and videos have screened
in festivals worldwide. Her current urban art-
365 Day Subway: Poems by New Yorkers-was
featured in the Wall Street Journal and on PBS
Weekend News Hour. Every time she rides the
subway, she asks a stranger to write a poem.

Gelernt has been an attorney with the
ACLU since 1992, focusing on immigration
and national security issues and directs the
Project's Program on Access to the Courts.
Since 2001 Gelernt has worked on several farreaching national security cases arising from
the events of September 11, including serving
as one of only a few human rights observers
at Guantanamo Bay for the first military trial
conducted by the U.S. since World War II. An
adjunct professor at Columbia Law School and
a visiting lecturer in clinical law at Yale Law
School Prof. Gelernt was honored in 2002 with
the 13th Annual Public Interest Achievement
Award from Columbia University's Public
Interest Law Foundation. The American
Immigration Lawyers Association has twice
awarded him its national prize for excellence
in litigation for his civil rights work on behalf of
the immigrant community.

Laurie Adlman Frank writes: Celebrating my

35th anniversary in 2017 (to [Dr.] Kevin Frank)
and anticipating the birth of my second granddaughter in February 2017.

1982
Dr. David Sanders married Sharon Waxkirsh
in Israel on July 3, 2016. His sister, Shira
Sanders '81, attended along with his three
boys, his mother Freyda Sanders and his sister
Aviva Sanders. He also started serving as West
Lafayette City Councilor in 2016.

Seasons in Buenos Aires" arranged by her husband Alexander Yagupsky for piano and orchestra, and the Bach F-Minor Keyboard Concerto
at The Danbury Music Center on November 5,
2016. Attorney Lee Gelernt led the challenge
brought by the ACLU and other groups to
President Donald J. Trump's Executive Order
banning entry to the U.S. by Muslims from seven
countries. On January 28, 2017 Gelernt, Deputy
Director of the ACLU's national Immigrants'
Rights Project, successfully argued in Federal
Court the case for a nationwide temporary
injunction to block the deportation of people

Jody Lewen, Ph.D. accepted a National
Humanities Medal on behalf of the Prison
University Project (PUP) (https://prisonuniversityproject.org) from former President Barak
Obama, in a ceremony at the White House on
September 22, 2016. Dr. Lewen is founder and
director of the PUP program at San Quentin
State Prison in California and the extension site
director of Patten University at San Quentin. The
National Humanities Medal honors individuals
and organizations whose work has deepened
the nation's understanding of the human experience, broadened citizens' engagement with
