HM in Motion Campaign

Previous HM capital campaigns have helped the school
sustain its position as one of the top liberal arts K-12 institutions in the country. The HM in Motion priorities apply
that same level of commitment to HM's future by addressing four goals: Inspiring Science; Encouraging Community;
Promoting Wellness; and Strengthening Athletics.
Launching HM in Motion
Horace Mann School Board of Trustees Chair Michael
Colacino '75 and HM Head of School Dr. Tom Kelly described
this effort as one that was put in place "with deep appreciation and respect for Horace Mann School's past, a genuine understanding of its present, and tremendous excitement about
the school's future." They further noted that Horace Mann
School "has a long tradition of continuous improvement and
innovation. In keeping with this tradition the school's leadership has developed and advanced a plan to build and renovate
facilities in science, wellness, general instruction and student
life." Both Dr. Kelly and Colacino acknowledged and thanked
Steve Friedman '72, the Board Chair who preceded Colacino
and played an instrumental role in early planning and fundraising for this campaign effort.

Identified over several years of careful study and analysis by administrators, trustees, and representatives of the
alumni, parent and faculty community, as well as in discussions with students, the Campaign's goals were deemed essential to strengthening HM today and ensuring the school's
success into the future. The results of HM in Motion will
enable Horace Mann School to construct facilities that support these goals by:
! Inspiring Science - constructing a new science facility
for the Upper Division science program and renovating science facilities in Pforzheimer Hall for the Middle
Division science program
! Encouraging Community - providing a home for campus
life within a new campus center, which will become the
hub of student life during the day and provide a safe and
environmentally conscious facility after school hours
! Promoting Wellness - adding a 21st-century pool, which
will replace the current antiquated structure, to support physical education instruction for students in
grades N-12 and incorporate all of the requirements for
athletic competition
