New York Times associate editorial page editor
David Leonhardt returned to HM in October
2016 to participate in an assembly covering the

The former HM Record editor and winner of
a Pulitzer Prize for his economic columns in
the NY Times David writes a weekly Tuesday
Op-Ed column for the Times' print edition and
frequently contributes to the Times' online
edition and Sunday Review section.

1992
Save the Date, October 14, 2017,
for HM Homecoming and the
25th Reunion of the Class of 1992.
Dr. Anil Ranawat is an orthopedic surgeon
at Hospital for Special Surgery in New
York where he is also the Sports Medicine
Fellowship Director.

1994

Brian Flanagan and his wife Julie McGinnis
Flanagan welcomed their son Wyeth Henry
Flanagan on April 22, 2016 in New York City.
Writes Julie, "Wyeth was expertly delivered by
fellow HM alum and HM Board of Trustee member Dr. Catherine Goodstein '87 (Dr. Catherine
Goodstein Wallace) Wyeth is a happy little guy
and is keeping us on our toes." Rivi HandlerSpitz teaches Chinese language and literature at
Macalester College. Her first book, a co-edited
translation of writings by the 16th century
Chinese radical intellectual Li Zhi was published
earlier this year. The book is titled A Book to
Burn and a Book to Keep (Hidden). (The book
will be covered in the next issue of Horace Mann
Magazine). She still wears her hair very short.

Andrew Fleiss, Jennifer Carter Fleiss '01,
sister Daniella and brother Jake welcomed
Julia Davie Fleiss ("Jules") to the world at 5
p.m. September 26, 2016, at 8lb and 13 oz.

Hasan Stephens was featured in a June 2016
article on local leaders in Syracuse, N.Y. by
Syracuse.com http://www.syracuse.com/
news/index.ssf/2016/06/hasan_stephens_
leadership.html for founding and serving as executive director of Good Life Youth Foundation
(http://agoodlifefound.org) which helps at-risk
youth develop financial knowledge, entrepreneurial skills and more. (see article on p. 14)
Stephens, who has worked at MTV, Power
106.9, Hot 107.9 and co-hosted "Rap City:
Tha Basement" on BET, is known to Syracuse
University sports fans as "D.J. Maestro" the
Carrier Dome's official DJ at football and
basketball games.

Stella Lee and her husband Marcus Jacobi
became the parents of Livia on November
3, 2016. Livia joins 3-year-old brother Lucas
Jacobi. Stella is a founding member of Bureau
V, the acclaimed architecture firm named an
Architectural Digest Innovator of 2016, among
other honors. (Story on p. 19.)

Ari Hest was nominated for a Grammy Award,
together with Judy Collins, for Best Folk Album
for their acclaimed duet collection "Silver Skies
Blue" released in June 2016. "Very honored
to be recognized with so many other amazing artists," wrote Hest. Ari has been touring
with Collins, and showcasing his own work,
including music from his album "Shouts and
Whispers" throughout the U.S, the U.K., Ireland
and Germany. His latest album "Natural" is out
in Spring 2017. Details and tour dates at: www.

Pia Cincotti is
collaborating on a new
musical with her
brother Peter Cincotti
'01 based on a German
silent film. The idea
was conceived while
she was a Dramatist Guild Fellow in 2014,
developed at the Goodspeed Opera House, and
most recently featured in Stephen Schwartz's
2016 ASCAP Musical Theatre Workshop.
Benjamin Litman and Elizabeth Michelis
were married on October 8, 2016. Elizabeth
is a dean of students in grades six through
nine at Avenues: The World School in
Manhattan, and vice executive director of
Green Generations, a nonprofit organization
