MANN ALUMNI Alumni Council Corner JOURNAL held this year at the elegant Spin gallery, where artwork by HMAC member Jeff Brosk '65 was on exhibit. Alumni were invited to a special evening in advance of HM's annual Book Day to discuss and learn from two distinguished speakers about the book that Upper Division students and faculty were reading for the 22nd installment of this impactful campus event. And in April 2016, alumni participated in HM's annual Women's Issues Club dinner, and in its all-school Service Learning Day. June's Alumni Benefit was a perfect way for the Alumni Association to bring the year to a close, for the event truly represented our mission of providing ways for HM alumni to connect with one another, and to maintain a meaningful relationship with Horace Mann School today. We will continue to organize and participate in events that bring HM's alumni together with one another and with the greater Horace Mann School community in the coming school year. I hope you will join us in planning and coming to these events. I write to you, the Horace Mann School alumni community, as the Horace Mann Alumni Council (HMAC) completes a year of activities and events on behalf of our alums and our school. Thank you to all those on the Alumni Council who worked hard to organize our recent Alumni Council Benefit in support of the Horace Mann School Student Lunch Initiative, and to all of those alumni from across the generations who came to the 13th annual Benefit to enjoy one another's company while supporting this worthy cause. In large part due to the efforts of Benefit Chairs Jodi Rosensaft '01 and Erica Zeichner Siena '98, to Auction Chairs Jennifer Fleiss '01 and Andrew Fleiss '96, and to the participation of our Benefit Committee and all of the Benefit Underwriters, the HM Alumni Association raised over $82,000 at this fun and lively gathering, which took place on June 21, 2016 at Sarabeth's in Manhattan. The money helps fund the cost of school lunches for HM students in grades six-through-12 who are receiving financial aid. The HMAC began the 2015-16 academic year by participating in September 2015's observance of the 50th anniversary of HM's John Dorr Nature Laboratory during the annual Dorr Family Picnic. October saw hundreds of alumni at Homecoming and Reunions. Later that month the HMAC gathered to bestow the 2015 Horace Mann School Alumni Association Award for Distinguished Achievement on The Honorable Milton A. Tingling '71. It was our honor to celebrate the career of this former New York State Supreme Court Justice who now serves as County Clerk of New Horace Mann Head of School Dr. Tom Kelly told participants in the HM Alumni Council's (HMAC) 13th-annual York County, Commissioner of Benefit how much the school community appreciates the HMAC's efforts to raise funds to support HM's Student Lunch Initiative.
