Class Notes (JSHA) recognizing his work as a longtime HM soccer coach (Dan was also a teacher and an administrator at HM) who continues to keep former players connected with HM and with one another through the annual Dan Alexander Alumni Soccer Game played at Homecoming. Irwin Block reports that he enjoys lunch bi-weekly with classmates Paul Weinstein and Paul Silverstone and is also very close with his brothers Joel Block '52 and Robert Block '57. Austin Heyman was honored, on October 8, 2015, by the Jewish Council for the Aging of Greater Washington with the Advocate for the Aging Award. Austin reports that he "has been a Montgomery County Senior Fellow on Aging Issues for the past eight years." 1950 The Class of 1950 enjoyed a 65th reunion at the Harmonie Club in New York on May 27, 2015. Organized by James Freund the gathering gave classmates a chance to share memories of HM and catch up with one another. Dr. Edward L. Raab is on the American College of Surgeons Board of Governors, and has gone on volunteer surgical missions in India, China, Uganda, and Uzbekistan. Prof. Arthur Blaustein who has been teaching at the University of California, Berkeley instituted a new course in 2015 titled Economic, Environmental, and Social Justice. His most recent book, Democracy is not a Spectator Sport: The Ultimate Volunteer Handbook (2011, with Helen Matatov) was given as a graduation gift to the 2015 graduates of UC Berkeley's six major professional schools (1,000 copies). Prof. Blaustein has taught community and economic development and urban policy at the 44 Horace Mann Magazine Summer 2016 university's Department of City and Regional Planning since 1984, and has held joint appointments in the Departments of American Studies and African-American Studies where he has taught public policy, social history and politics. Michael Halpern wrote, "Having survived totally unexpected open-heart surgery in December 2013, and two knee replacements (in 2015) Julie and I are happily settled in a Continuing Care retirement community called Lenbrook here in Atlanta. I continue my 28year work with an at-risk youth mentoring program called YES! Atlanta." Bayard T. Ludlum writes: "Over the years I have occasionally submitted to the Government that the United States could assist in forming a Federation of Israel and Palestine." 1951 Save the Date, September 24, 2016, for HM Homecoming and the 65th Reunion of the Class of 1951. Dr. Renee Richards was honored, in October 2015, with an Athlete Ally Action Award. The award is given by Athlete Ally (www.athleteally.org), a nonprofit organization to end homophobia and transphobia in sports and to educate athletic communities to stand up against anti-LGBT discrimination. The Award recognizes those who took pioneering actions concerning this cause, and who champion LGBT equality. The award was presented to Dr. Richards at a gala dinner with guests including prominent sports, entertainment and political figures. HM Upper Division student Aurora Grutman '18 interviewed tennis greats Dr. Renee Richards '52 and Billie Jean Kingat a "High School Summit on Gender (In) Equality" for NYC-area high school students that Grutman organized with other HM UD students, and that HM hosted in January 2016. the Kendra and Allan Daniel Collection" the exhibit was on display through May 8, 2016. Sirgay Sanger joined the group minutes later. The Class of 1952 remains connected with one another via emails and quarterly luncheons. The last of these took place in April 2016 and the next is scheduled for Sept. 19, 2016. Alan Sklar, one of the main organizers of these reunions, and also a noted voice actor, recently did a reading of Truman Capote's short story "A Jug of Silver" at the North Castle Public Library in Armonk, N.Y. 1953 Robert Caro's The Power Broker was published Photo by Jasmin Ortiz Allan Daniel, with his wife, Kendra, had part of their American Folk Art collection on view at the American Folk Art Museum in New York City. Titled "Mystery and Benevolence- Masonic and Odd Fellows Folk Art from for the first time ever in the UK in July 2015, to great acclaim. Wrote John R. MacArthur in The Spectator: "Caro's remarkable portrait of New York City's master planner Robert Moses merits publication in any language, at any moment in time."
