Coordinating the Dynamic Events at FSAE Michigan helped me achieve my job in racing and it also gives me the chance to be a sanctioning body. This helps me better communicate with IMSA and allows me to walk a mile in their shoes. Has any single SAE Member been particularly helpful or inspirational to you? Through Formula SAE, I became friends with Alba Colon. Alba was a Formula SAE student while in college and then continued her membership professionally. She is a member of the FSAE Michigan Planning Committee (which is how we met) and served other roles with SAE International. Alba had made a career in racing at GM and her story was inspiration to me and helped me seek out my own opportunity in racing. SAE has been a large part of her life helping her build her network and establish herself in the industry. If SAE is for building your technical knowledge - go through the papers that interest you and consider attending conferences or technical events. One of the best things you can do is volunteer. I find you meet the most people and end up honing skills when you volunteer. It's done wonders for my career. You also get to feel good about it too and it's easier to justify being there if you play a role. What do you like to do in your free time? My creative outlet is cooking. I love creating new desserts and I try to homecook almost all our meals when I'm not traveling. Chocolate molding and cake decorating are my specialties. I also enjoy spending time with my German Shepherd, Spike, taking walks or "singing" together at home. If our schedule allows, my husband and I will get at least one or two track days in with our Corvette. What career advice can you offer current and prospective SAE Professional Members?
