The event will also feature speakers and panelists from
organizations including the National Aeronautics and Space
Administration (NASA), the European Aviation Safety Agency
(EASA), GE Aviation, Gulfstream Aerospace, Rolls-Royce,
Honeywell, Delta Airlines and more.
Sessions will cover topics including additive manufacturing,
lithium-ion batteries, hybrid-electric aircraft propulsion, materials
substitution and REACH (Registration, Evaluation, Authorization,
and Restriction of Chemicals), and condition-based maintenance.
richard greaves, 2015 SAE President and Chief Technical Officer
Emeritus, Meggitt PLC, will discuss integrated vehicle health
monitoring during the session on condition based maintenance.
The summit co-chairs are robert ireland, SAE Vice President for
Aerospace and Managing Director, Engineering & Maintenance,
Airlines for America, and Andrew pickard, SAE Aerospace
Council Chair and Chief of Process and IT Controls, Rolls-Royce.
"With the rapid development of transformational technologies
such as electric propulsion, additive manufacturing, and
condition based maintenance, it is essential to facilitate a dialog
among OEMs, suppliers, and regulators to ensure that standards
are aligned with technology implementation," said Pickard.
"This event is a first of its kind," added Ireland. "SAE
International is addressing critical technology breakthroughs
just in time to facilitate product development and provide an
opportunity for regulatory approval in sync with commercial
business concerns. Developing key partnerships related to the
interface between standards and emerging technology will be an
important part of the Aerospace Standards Summit discussion."
In addition to the usual presentation and panel discussion
format, the conference will offer an "Aviation Challenges
Speakers Corner," a unique, free-exchange session with short,
spontaneous 5-10 minute talks designed as thought-provoking
exercises.

The SAE International g-22 Aero Engine supplier Quality
(AEsQ) committee issued AS13001 ™ ("Supplier Self Release
Training Requirements") in February. This standard defines
the requirements for a supplier's self release program.
The G-22 Committee was created to develop, specify,
maintain and promote quality standards specific to the
Aero Engine supply chain. One of the committee's primary
objectives is to reduce customer (OEM) specific requirements
through a focused set of standards that integrate industry
best practice and aero engine unique elements.
Recognizing a strong commonality among their various self
release training programs, OEMs and supplier organizations
worked under the G-22 Committee to consolidate their selfrelease training into a single, common standard. The standard
will improve quality and reduce costs through the removal of
duplication between each delegating organization's individual
training requirements.
To identify the competency requirements for personnel
conducting self-release activities within their supplier
organization, the committee has teamed with SAE
Professional Development to develop a standardized
foundations training course.
This three-day course, "Aerospace Supplier Quality:
Common Training for Self-Release Delegates," provides a
comprehensive and standardized set of requirements for
carrying-out the self-release process. When the AS13001
standard is imposed from any delegating organization as
a requirement, this course is recognized as satisfying the
respective customer training element.
