AESQ COMMITTEE PUBLISHES TWO NEW STANDARDS
SAE's G-22 Aerospace Engine Supplier Quality (AESQ)
Committee published two new standards earlier this year.

Analysis manual and describes the acceptance criteria that
suppliers are expected to demonstrate.

AS13002, "Requirements for Developing and Qualifying
Alternate Inspection Frequency Plans," covers the process
to be applied to design characteristics (as defined in
AS9102), parts, or inspection processes as defined by the
purchaser. The document adopts industry best practices
for measurement system analysis (MSA) and statistical
techniques - including International Aerospace Quality Group
(IAQG) and AESQ standards - and describes the acceptance
criteria that suppliers are expected to apply.

"As an industry we are heavily reliant on the use of inspection
to assure ourselves that the product meets the design intent,"
said Dr Ian Riggs of Rolls-Royce, who led the development
of the standard. "The capability of our inspection systems
is fundamental to the achievement of this goal. This
standard will go a long way to improve the confidence in our
verification activities across the supply chain."

"Aero-engine companies currently have their own
requirements for inspection frequency which are very
similar," said David Goldberg of GE Aviation, who led the
development of the standard. "A single standard will be
more efficient for suppliers and reduce confusion in the
supply chain. We developed this standard to allow for a
single method for developing inspection plans other than
100-percent inspection of all features."
AS13003, "Measurement Systems Analysis Requirements
for the Aero Engine Supply Chain," defines the minimum
requirements for conducting Measurement Systems Analysis
(MSA) for variable and attribute assessment on characteristics
as defined on the drawing or specification. It adopts industry
best practice including the AIAG Measurement Systems

Both standards are supported by existing industry-wide
training and consultancy provisions. Engine manufacturers
will be communicating their specific deployment
requirements to their suppliers over the coming months.
Formed in 2013, the G-22 committee's mission is to harmonize
supplier quality management requirements in order to
improve the quality capability of the aerospace engine
supply chain and reduce costs through eliminating waste. The
committee includes members from engine manufacturers and
such major suppliers as GE, GKN, Honeywell, PCC, Pratt &
Whitney, Rolls-Royce, and SNECMA.
Suppliers who are part of the aerospace engine supply chain
can get involved in the development of future requirements
by contacting Becky DeGutis, Technical Project Specialist,
SAE International, at +1-724-772-4083 or bdegutis@sae.org.

STANDARDS DEVELOPMENT LEADER AND PARTNER
SAE has become the world's largest standards development organization by partnering with
industry for nearly 100 years to discover solutions to its common problems. Today, it works with
companies - and other SDO's around the world-to create and harmonize standards for the
advancement of the global aerospace industry.
