AWIM MASTER TEACHER LEAVES A LEGACY FOR
RURAL AND NATIVE AMERICAN STUDENTS
With a strong desire to continue
her impact on young people well
into the future, Patricia Schneider
knew what her legacy should
be. She has included the SAE
Foundation in her estate plans and
has become the newest member
of the Siegel Society for Legacy

Giving. Her gift ensures that
even after she is gone, she will be
helping to educate young people
in the communities that are most
important to her.
Pat clearly recalls the moment
she fell in love with math. Her
7th grade
math teacher
inspired her
and something
clicked. Pat
knew that
she would
eventually
inspire young
learners in the
same way.

Pat's dream
of becoming a
math teacher
became a
reality and
turned into
a 35-year

career teaching students from
Kindergarten through 10th grade.
Partway through that career,
she discovered SAE's A World
In Motion® (AWIM) program. "I
remember that a parent brought
me an AWIM brochure one year in
November and told me this was
something I needed to see," said
Pat. "I put the brochure away and
picked it up again when things
slowed down in December and I
could tell this was good stuff."
By the next year, Pat had
incorporated the AWIM Motorized
Toy Car program into her
classroom. "As a teacher, that
AWIM kit had everything I needed
for my class. I was hooked,"
said Pat. "I used AWIM in my
classrooms for 18 years."
After she retired from teaching,
Pat continued her involvement
with AWIM and became an AWIM
Master Teacher focused on

rural communities in the Rocky
Mountain states. It was during
this time that she witnessed what
power education had to change
someone's life.
"It became clear to me very early
on what a dire need there is for
STEM education in rural and Native
American schools," said Pat. One
story in particular had a deep
impact on her. One of the students
she worked with in a Native
American school joined an SAE F1
in Schools team with classmates.
Their team was incredibly
successful and they earned a
spot in the F1 In Schools National
Championship at the Michigan
International Speedway.
"I was watching this student
participate in the national
competition against students from
large schools and large urban and
suburban communities and I could
see the excitement on his face,"
