2015 CHAIRMAN'S LETTER
2015 was an
incredible year
for the SAE
Foundation. We
started the year
strong with
a $1.2 million
pledge from
Kia Motors Manufacturing Georgia
(KMMG). KMMG's pledge will
expand the reach of the A World
In Motion® program (AWIM) to
communities throughout Georgia
and Alabama, allowing us to reach
thousands of students with muchneeded STEM programming.
It was a breakthrough year for
SAE's full continuum of STEM
programs, as that continuum
expanded to include Pre-K. A
generous gift from Arnold and
Stephanie Siegel enabled SAE to
create an innovative curriculum
that focuses on intentional
teaching that takes advantage of
a child's natural interest in play
and motivation to make sense of

the world around them. SAE is
the only U.S.-based organization
to offer STEM programming from
Pre-K through College.
SAE also expanded the AWIM
Primary (K-3) program to include
its newest curriculum called
Making Music. Funded by a gift
from the GM Foundation, Making
Music incorporates art into the
program as students make their
own instruments while learning
about vibration and sound.
I am very proud that my own
employer, Ford Motor Company,
made a gift in 2015 to support
implementing AWIM in the
Ford Next Generation Learning
communities of Utica, Michigan
and Jeffersontown, Kentucky.
This will target younger students
in these areas who will ultimately
attend a Ford Next Generation
Learning High School, providing
a great example of partnering to
engage young learners and keep

them interested in STEM subjects
as they progress to higher grades.
These students also have the
chance to benefit from the SAE/
Ford Partnership for Advanced
Studies Scholarship, helping propel
them into a university engineering
program.

Foundation's 2015 Annual Report,
you will learn more about these
initiatives as well as the success
of the SAE Foundation Annual
Celebration, the re-invigoration
of AWIM Learn Twice, exciting
expansions in SAE's professional
awards and about how one
teacher's passion for educating
rural communities led to her leave
a legacy with the SAE Foundation.
In 2015 we named the inaugural
class of SAE Trustee Emeriti.
I continue to be inspired each
day as the Chairman of the SAE
Foundation Board of Trustees
as I see the dedication of our

volunteers, the passion of our
donors and the incredible impact
we make on students.
None of this would be possible
without you. Your support
helps SAE deliver quality STEM
programming to the farthest
reaches of rural towns to the
busiest city centers, honor the
best and brightest STEM industry
professionals with awards for their
groundbreaking work and provide
scholarships to university students
pursuing engineering and related
science degrees.
