to improve patient care, promote medication safety, and
achieve benchmarking goals.
Tele-ICU pharmacists employ limited resources to provide critical care pharmacy expertise to multiple sites
within a health care system, often during non-traditional
hours, with documented clinical and financial benefits.
Communication with tele-ICU and bedside providers,
including pharmacists, is necessary to implement recommendations and improve continuity of care. Further study is
needed to determine the impact of tele-ICU pharmacists on
morbidity and mortality. Individual institution and healthsystem needs should be addressed to optimize the role of
the telepharmacist.
