additional phase 3 trials combining biologic use with surgery,
there is the potential to use available biomarkers and patient
characteristics to direct therapy to minimize the need for further additional surgery and corticosteroid use. This panel uses
patient cases with biomarkers, images, and videos, as well as
currently available evidence and guidelines, to discuss different therapeutic approaches to treatment and ways to potentially answer these questions: Who will do well with just
surgery and medicated rinses? Who will need adjuvant biologic therapy or would need that treatment first?
Outcome Objectives: (1) List the available biomarkers and
their practical clinical application in decision making for treatment of CRSwNP. (2) Describe the utilization of biologic
therapies for CRSwNP alone, pre-FESS, and post-FESS.
(3) Discuss a guided, personalized treatment approach to
CRSwNP using FESS, medical therapy, and biologics.
Innovations in Treatment of Chronic
Rhinosinusitis With Nasal Polyposis: From
Bench Research to Clinical Practice

Session Description: Effective management of chronic rhinosinusitis with nasal polyposis (CRSwNP) continues to remain a
challenge. Despite appropriate therapy, a significant proportion
of CRSwNP patients develop recurrent disease with substantial
impact on their quality of life. However, recent years have witnessed major advances in laboratory research that have greatly
expanded our understanding of the pathophysiology of
CRSwNP. Such insights have led to the development of novel
therapeutic options for recalcitrant disease. The purpose of this
panel presentation is to discuss new, cutting-edge basic science
research in rhinology and delineate how these findings have
translated into innovative treatments for CRSwNP. Current
work aimed at defining CRS endotypes will be reviewed and
their relationship to emerging systemic biologics addressed.
The varied mechanisms of action, immunomodulatory capabilities, and clinical efficacy of these burgeoning agents will be
elucidated in the context of CRS endotypes. Recent discoveries
regarding the sinonasal microbiome will be presented, and their
impact on the utilization of topical therapies in CRSwNP will
be discussed. The role of epithelial innate immunity and its
clinical implications in CRSwNP will also be assessed. Novel
surgical approaches for recalcitrant CRSwNP that have arisen
from irrigation distribution studies will be delineated. The
indications and techniques involved with such surgical salvage
procedures will be described in conjunction with video presentations. Finally, new technologies will be presented along with
the current evidence for their use in CRSwNP. This session will
be conducted by academic rhinologists using an interactive
case-based format with audience polling.
Outcome Objectives: (1) Discuss the scientific basis underlying novel medical therapies, including systemic biologics
and immunomodulators for CRSwNP. (2) Describe new
surgical approaches and recent technologic innovations for

New and Improved Therapeutic Options for
Patients With Olfactory Loss

Session Description: Patients who have lost their senses of
smell and taste are desperate for help, but unfortunately, every
year millions are told by their physicians that there is nothing
that can be done to help them. This is certainly no longer the
case. This panel will provide general otolaryngologists with
the practical ability to offer hope and real therapeutic options
to their patients with this devastating problem. Learn what benefit current treatment options provide, which once-popular
remedies have since been disproven, and find out what translational studies are under way to bring the latest cutting-edge
research to your patient in the office.
Outcome Objectives: (1) Appraise the latest proven treatment options for your patients with olfactory loss. (2)
Determine which treatment options have been disproven to
help patients with olfactory loss. (3) Discuss the newest
research and learn how to direct your patients to sites where
translational studies are being carried out.
Think Outside the Box: Anterior Skull Base
Lessons for All Otolaryngologists

Session Description: This session uses case-based learning
from patients with anterior skull base/complex rhinologic problems and distills accessible and applicable concepts important
to otolaryngologists. In an effort to de-silo knowledge and promote concepts important to otolaryngologists, we introduce
cross-discipline learning as an integral part of this session. In
this session, experts will discuss clinical issues such as malignancy presenting as an "unknown-oma," bleeding, intraoperative complications, endoscopic skull base methods and how
these translate to other areas, how avoiding long-term complications, and how bringing new technologies safely into your
operating room can be applied from their patients to yours, no
matter your type of practice or patient. Particular importance
will be placed on understanding the rationale and science
behind different clinical issues and how these can translate into
other subareas of otolaryngology, for practitioners of any type.
In addition, we will review concepts that employ evidencebased medicine, as well as connect with principles and policies
supported by the American Academy of Otolaryngology-Head
and Neck Surgery. This session is updated for 2020.
Outcome Objectives: (1) Review how solutions in rhinology
and endoscopic skull base resulted in a better understanding of
essential clinical concepts. (2) Apply scenarios for hemorrhage, skull base injury, diagnostic dilemmas, and long-term
