"The Silent Samaritans have directly and indirectly

touched the lives of thousands of women who would not
have received services otherwise. All of these are women who were in need of help at a very difficult time in
their lives. For many years, counseling was the only way
in which this assistance could be given, but recently, due
to the expansion of our services, we have been able to
help several women sort through vocational challenges
or receive mentoring as well. The Silent Samaritans are
truly a great example of women helping women in ways
that make a real difference in their lives."



Each year, 1 in 5 women in the United States has a mental
health issue such as depression, post-traumatic stress
disorder (PTSD), or an eating disorder.



Women are twice as likely as men to experience generalized
anxiety disorder, depression or panic disorder.



About 1 in 3 women have experienced sexual violence,
physical violence, and/or stalking by an intimate partner in
their lifetime.



Women attempt suicide more often than men; however, men
are four times more likely to die by suicide.

"The Silent Samaritan Endowment is a fund for the

long-term benefit of our mission of women
receiving counseling help. Those who donate to the
Endowment will have the opportunity to vote on
how the interest generated by the fund will be used
yearly. Each Spring, therapists from the
Center will submit proposals that they would like to
be funded. The result of the donors' vote will be
announced at the annual Silent Samaritan luncheon. This is just one more
creative way to support women in our community."
