number of recognized AM companies
that covered the primary technologies
in the state-of-the-art as well as conduct tours which demonstrated various AM examples. However, SAMPE
noted that there were areas within the
additive manufacturing events offered
in North America that did not cover a
number of certification often of interest
to composite structural applications.
This absence of "additive manufacturing certification" across the industry
suggested that a SAMPE workshop covering "Additive Manufacturing: Structural Verification Through Test and Data
Evaluation" would appeal to a larger audience since no one was covering that
critical aspect. Consequently, SAMPE
selected choose the National Institute
of Aviation Research (NIAR) at Wichita
State University in Wichita, KS as the
site for that workshop. This workshop,
held June 2019 attracted key companies
and recognized AM experts across areas which focused on "certification" for
aerospace, automotive and other key
industry markets in which testing and
data were critical factors.
Overall, SAMPE is working to define
additional workshops that cover technologies of interest to our members -
and others in the advancement of materials and process engineering. All of
this programming fulfills our mission
which is to improve workforce capability by offering this advanced training.
