high thermal diffusivity materials where the entire
transient diffusion process occurs during the blind
period. However, the stepped approach is well suited to composite NDT applications. In the configuration presented in this paper, the slightly lower
spatial resolution provided by the large standoff
step thermography setup, combined with both
the clutter presented by the weave of the sample
and the small aspect ratio of the smallest defects,
caused the 2.2mm defects to be difficult to detect.
By using a large-standoff step thermography system with camera optics optimized for the detection
of these smaller defects, we expect to have better
performance.
