FEATURE supercapacitor electrodes Graphene Coated Carbon Fibres as Structural Supercapacitor Electrodes Olivier Hubert, Nikola Todorovic and Alexander Bismarck University of Vienna, Faculty of Chemistry, Institute for Materials Chemistry and Research, Wien, Austria E-mail: olivier.hubert@univie.ac.at ABSTRACT A structural composite supercapacitor is a material that can be used as a structural material and additionally can store electrical energy in the form of an electrochemical double layer. To achieve a useful compromise between good electrochemical and mechanical properties, graphene coated carbon fibres as electrode material were manufactured and investigated. The graphene was coated on the carbon fibres with an electrophoretic deposition process. We produced electrodes with a specific capacity up to 4 F/g and a specific surface area up to 193 m2 be suitable for use in structural supercapacitors. /g.
