here did you go to school?
I received a BS in Chemical
Engineering from the University
of Missouri - Rolla, now named
Missouri University of Science
& Technology. I earned a Master
in Engineering Management at
Washington University in Saint
Louis, Missouri. I also received an
Executive Certificate in Strategy
and Innovation from Massachusetts
Institute of Technology Sloan School
of Management.

here do you work? Please
share with us how you're
using composites in your current (or
recent) work project.
I work for Boeing Research &
Technology. While my current
focus is digital transformation via
model-based systems engineering,
I continue to support composite
and bonding material and process
research,
development,
and
technology transition. I have been
directly involved in the transition
of three generations of composite
material families into aircraft
structures.
W
hat first got you started with
SAMPE?
I was introduced to SAMPE through
attendance at a SAMPE conference
while working for McDonnell
Douglas Corporation in the 1980's
as part of career development. In
the 1980's and 1990's, I occasionally
attended conferences, sometimes
contributing a technical paper and
presentation to highlight recent
developments and to see the latest
new technologies from others.
Since 2000, my participation and
membership have been almost
continuous, sharing updates of
my technical programs at The
Boeing Company - sometimes
with a track highlighting a program
or technology such as out-ofautoclave
materials and processes.

for peer-review, and scouting new
technologies. My identity with
the Midwest Chapter grew while
working the conference held in
Cincinnati in 2007. In 2010, I was
honored with selection in the
SAMPE Fellowship. That provided
occasions
to
draft
positions on
technical subjects, one of which
was coordinated with Dr. Frances
Abrams another SAMPE Fellow also
of the Midwest Chapter. I was also
asked to provide input regarding
ACMA and SAMPE co-involvement
with CAMX conferences. In 2013,
I
started attending some of the
Midwest SAMPE Chapter Board
meetings in anticipation of hosting
CAMX 2015 as a Conference Cochair
with Dr. John Russell, also
a Mid-West SAMPE Fellow. While
I did not go through the typical
path of chapter leadership to North
American leadership to the Global
Board, my insights as a SAMPE
Fellow and as someone who has
not been able to regularly attend
physical local chapter meetings
are appreciated in planning and
evaluations of new approaches
for this professional group.
Interestingly, I attended more
meetings of SAMPE chapters during
the last two years of virtual events
than in the same time period at any
other time of my membership.
