Newly developed materials and transitioning
technologies will be initially disseminated within our
TC and then to the SAMPE membership and beyond.
We will support the education and training of the future
workforce for a better tomorrow by establishing best
practices and material testing and quality standards
via domestic and international collaborations.
How Can You Be Involved?
With the formation of the Technical Excellence
Committee at SAMPE 2022 in Charlotte, NC, SAMPE
envisions a future where the Technical Committees
(TCs) are the pillar/foundation for innovation, knowledge
building, standardization, community outreach,
professional/student mentoring and networking, and
customer discovery within several prime technology
areas. We meet virtually once a month for around
an hour to discuss ongoing developments within
the sustainability community and to provide input on
upcoming events. The meeting also includes a 10-15
minute presentation from a current member or subject
matter expert (SME) that is part of an ongoing Seminar
Series that will feature speakers from across academia,
government, and industry with topics focused on
specific areas within material lifecycle (fabrication,
use, reclamation, recycle, reuse, re-purpose, waste).
Ongoing recruiting efforts are directed at increasing
academic and government participation as well as
identifying potential members from non-aerospace
markets such as automotive, sporting goods, advanced
thermoplastics, and medical devices. Furthermore,
an annual Student
Chapter project (Capstone
Senior Design) is being developed with input from
industry SMEs, SAMPE staff, and the leadership of
the Recycling of Composites TC. The objective is to
have industry partners supply an RFP and materials
that will be distributed to interested SAMPE Student
Chapters who will submit proposals to a Technical
Point of Contact appointed by the Leadership. Student
Chapters with competitive proposals will be selected
and be paired with an industry TPOC. Periodic updates
will be presented at the monthly meetings and a final
technical report will be submitted for review at the
SAMPE or CAMX conference the following year. The
Student Chapters will be ranked based on performance
and the winning Chapter will be sponsored to present
their work at a future SAMPE conference and will be
highlighted internally by the Recycling of Composites
TC and globally in a SAMPE newsletter. We believe
that this opportunity will provide students with handson
experience in composite design, processing,
and recycling with critical support from SMEs within
academia, government, and industry.
