Tony E. Saliba

Where did you go to school?
Tony: University of Dayton Bachelor of Chemical
Engineering in 1981, MS in Chemical Engineering
in 1982, Ph.D. in Materials Engineering in 1986. In
between my MS and Ph.D., I taught full-time and
started my Ph.D. studies at Auburn University.
Don: University of Dayton I did my bachelor's and
master's degrees in chemical engineering at U.D.,
and then I switched to materials engineering with
Tony Saliba as my research advisor. We did our
research on-site at Wright Patterson AFB with the
Air Force Research Laboratory. I graduated in 1994
and began to work for the University of Dayton
Research Institute.

The SAMPE University Research Symposium (URS) is a competitive program that sponsors select SAMPE
student members to present the results of their technical research at CAMX. The URS, one of SAMPE's key
initiatives for emerging student leaders, has been ongoing for over 30 years. Designed to give university
students the opportunity to showcase their work on an international level, it often attracts some of the
brightest minds in our field.
This program not only benefits the students by providing them with a platform to present their research but
also enriches the materials and process engineering community by introducing fresh ideas and fostering
collaboration between academia and industry. Leading this charge is Tony Saliba, Wilke Distinguished
Professor of Chemical and Materials Engineering and Dean Emeritus at University of Dayton, and Don
Klosterman, Associate Professor; John F. and Leona D. Torley Chair in Composite Materials. Both Tony and
Don are SAMPE Fellows.

Where do you work?
Tony: University of Dayton. I started at the University
of Dayton as an assistant professor in 1986 and
served as the Chair of the Chemical and Materials
Engineering Department from 1993 to 2009. I
then had the honor of serving as the Dean of the
School of Engineering and the Wilke Endowment
Distinguished Professor until 2014. I have since
returned to the faculty as a Professor and Dean
Emeritus.
Don: University of Dayton. I began working as a
full-time researcher at the University of Dayton
Research Institute (UDRI) in 1994. Tony Saliba got
me involved in teaching a few years later, and I
eventually transitioned over to the UD School of
Engineering as a full-time professor. I eventually
earned tenure and was appointed as the John F.
and Leona D. Torley Endowed Chair in Composite
Materials in 2018.
