Editor-in-Chief SAMPE Journal
Dr. Wereley is the Minta Martin Professor of Aerospace Engineering at the University of Maryland, and serves as the InnoVital Systems Faculty Fellow for Aerospace
Innovation. He also serves as the Director of the Composites Research Laboratory. He served as Department Chair of Aerospace Engineering
from April 2012 - June 2021. His research interests are in dynamics and control of smart structures, with emphasis on active and passive
vibration damping control applied to vehicle systems. A key focus is semi-active magnetorheological (MR) fluids and elastomers, and their
application to vibration and shock isolation systems in vehicles. He is also investigating smart materials and composites, energy absorbing
materials for occupant protection systems, and applications of additive manufacturing. Dr. Wereley's research has been funded under a U.S.
Army Research Office Young Investigator Award and a National Science Foundation CAREER Award, as well as grants from DARPA, Army
Research Laboratory, AFOSR, NASA, ONR, and over 15 corporations. Dr. Wereley has published over 250 journal articles, 16 book chapters, &
over 275 conference publications. He is an inventor on 20 patents. Dr. Wereley serves as Editor of the Journal of Intelligent Material Systems
and Structures. He also serves as an associate editor for Smart Materials and Structures (IOP), and as Section Editor for Actuators (MDPI).
Dr. Wereley is the recipient of several awards including the 2012 ASME Adaptive Structures Prize, 2013 SPIE Smart Structures & Materials
Lifetime Achievement Award, & the 2013 SPIE Smart Structures Product Implementation Award. Dr. Wereley is a Fellow of the AIAA, RAeS,
VFS, ASME, IOP & SPIE.
