The H. Don Mahan Memorial Award goes to Dr. Peter Weinstein. SCVMA's
most prestigious award is presented to an individual who has served organized
veterinary medicine in an extraordinary manner, showing dedication to the veterinary
medical profession and concern for the wellbeing of animals.
The Phil Steinhauer Award will be presented to Marnelle Cashman. Nominees
should have demonstrated long-term and ongoing dedication to the veterinary
profession and organized veterinary medicine. Their actions will have enhanced
the knowledge and well-being of veterinarians in the SCVMA.
The Outstanding Veterinary Team Member Award will be presented to Sara
Botts. The honor is given annually to a non-veterinarian who has contributed
significantly to organized veterinary medicine and the human-animal
bond in Southern California and has promoted animal care and the profession
by providing excellent levels of care. The winner must be a member
of the SCVMA Veterinary Team Member Chapter and be nominated by an
SCVMA member. Additionally, he/she must have worked to improve the profession
(for example by teaching, volunteering, writing or public education work).
The Cortese-Lippincott Award is presented by the Animal Health Foundation
with the SCVMA and will be presented to Dr. Frank Borostyankoi (posthumously).
The honor is given to an individual who has gone above and beyond in
making the world a better place for both humans and animals. The winner has
excelled in community service, education of the veterinary community, and
support of the human-animal bond.
The winner of the Ginny Grant Award will be presented to Bonnie Lutz.
Nominees for the Ginny Grant Award must have shown ongoing and continual
support for an SCVMA member veterinarian or have actively participated
in programs to help educate the pet-owning public about responsible pet
ownership or the veterinary profession. The winner does not have to be an
SCVMA member. Spouses, significant others, hospital administrators, community
leaders and even local politicians may be considered.
