SEAHO FAFFAIRS AROUND THE REGION STUDENT EATURE collaboration with St. Martin of Tours Catholic Church in Troy and the Archdiocese of Mobile, the residence hall will feature a Newman Center – a Catholic ministry center found on secular university campuses throughout the world and on more than 270 campuses in the United States. Students of any religious affiliation will be eligible to reside at the Newman Center. and was an Assistant Community Director at the University of Alabama. The UWA Residence Hall Association has reorganized on campus after several years of inactivity. These RHA student leaders were able to attend their RADICAL Conference in October and the SAACURH Conference in November. They have been actively working to reorganize ALURH, the state student housing organization, to better serve RHA student leaders in the state of Alabama. RADICAL 2012 Conference University of West Alabama Terry Stepp joined the UWA family this year as the Residence Life Coordinator for Gilbert Hall, a 459-bed freshman housing facility that opened this past fall. Terry previously worked at Stony Brook University in New York as a Residence Hall Director On October 13, 2012, Housing and Residential Communities at The University of Alabama hosted RADICAL 2012, the Alabama Statewide RA Drive-In Conference. Ten schools attended (UA, UAH, UAB, Troy, UWA, Samford, Stillman, JSU, Montevallo, and Auburn), with a total of 207 delegates and advisors, and 26 volunteers participating. Thanks to the wonderful efforts of the UA staff RADICAL 2012 was a big success. There was great programming, lots of lively interaction among the delegations, a little touch of rivalry (which is always good), and now all the delegates and advisors have a colleague from another institution in the state with whom they have a connection. Florida Updates Saint Leo University Saint Leo University is excited to premiere two new living-learning communities for the 2013-2014 academic year with themes of active-living and service-learning. Erin Lucas and Nicholas Bliesner will be graduating and we will be seeking quality graduate assistants to replace these invaluable members of our Residence Life team. The Saint Leo 38 Florida Resident Assistant Symposium (FRAS) team was proud to win a program award, most original roll call, overall philanthropy and the Spirit Cup at the 2013 conference. Apartment Six, our newest residential facility, will be opening in fall 2013 to complement other new construction including Turf Stadium, a lacrosse and soccer field built on top of a two story parking garage.
