SEAHO FAFFAIRS AROUND THE REGION
STUDENT EATURE
Mississippi Updates
University of Mississippi
We have had a fun-filled fall semester in
residence life! Students have settled into our new
residence halls, the Ridges, and freshman interest
group (FIG) and living-learning community (LLC)
activities are in full swing. Faculty and staff
involvement gives students opportunities for in-hall
meetings, in-hall advising, and other academic
activities as well as fun. So far this year, FIG and LLC
students have enjoyed a camping trip, ice cream
socials, pizza and games, and cheering on the Ole
Miss Rebels in basketball. We are very excited to add
a new LLC, Education LLC, to our offerings in fall
2013.
Our residence hall directors in our traditional
halls have made it a year to remember by introducing
fun and learning to students through programs such as
Make Your Mark on Martin, Kincannon Open Mic
Night, and trick-or-treating for children of the local
community. Our residential colleges continue to offer
enrichment to their members through retreats,
community service, and in-hall activities including
salsa classes, foreign language tables, and game
nights.
The staff of Campus Walk are currently
developing a sophomore experience program for fall
2013, the first of its kind on our campus. Sophomore
residents will enjoy living among other sophomores
and participating in activities involving major
selection, career development, and connections with
faculty and staff. The primary focus of the program is
to aid students in transitioning to independent living
while addressing common sophomore challenges. Our
upcoming sophomores have shown great interest and
enthusiasm for this program.
With all of the great things we have going, we
can’t wait to see what the future holds for our
residents, our staff, and the Ole Miss community.
