STUDENT AFFAIRS AROUND THE REATURE SEAHO F EGION 10 scenarios and then discussed how they could be agents for change in their own campus communities by writing their action plans on “The wall of change.” According to some students who have participated in other campus diversity programs it, “had a deeper impact than walk the line.” The outcomes proposed by the diversity education team were for students to be able to identify feelings regarding oppression and how they plan to respond utilizing the information they learned. After a brief glance at the wall of change and the DET assessment tool, it was evident that the 274 attendees gained something from the program and were able to identify resources around campus in the case that they encountered a situation that was above their comfort level. DeAndre can be reached at dhoward@mhc.edu. In January Mars Hill College opened a second location in Asheville, NC for the Adult and Graduate Studies Programs. Additionally, in August 2013 Mars Hill College will transition to Mars Hill University. We look forward to the change from College to University status. In August 2012 we broke ground on a new 67 bed facility. Construction continues and Laurel Residence Hall will be completed in August 2013. Then in September we broke ground on a second 47 bed facility, Dogwood Residence Hall, to be completed in September 2013. Both of these new buildings will be freshmen living learning communities. We are excited at all of the changes taking place at Mars Hill College and look forward to sending out more updates. Mars Hill NC State University We are proud to announce the new staff hire of DeAndre Howard as the Assistant Director of Residence Life. DeAndre is coming to us from the University of Virginia’s College at Wise where he was a Community Coordinator. DeAndre spent his undergraduate at Saint Augustine’s University and his graduate level studies at Norfolk State University. DeAndre will focus on staff training/hiring and programming for the Residence Life Program. He is a At NC State, we are excited to welcome Brian Botts and Veronica Cooley as two new Assistant Directors. Veronica comes to NC State as the new Assistant Director for North East Campus. Veronica is a graduate of University of South Carolina and worked at Northern Arizona prior to coming to State. Brian joins the staff as the new Assistant Director for Bragaw Hall. Brian worked at the University of North Carolina at Greensboro and we are happy to keep him in North Carolina. Tennessee Updates Vanderbilt University TACUHO 2012 Vanderbilt University’s Office of Housing & Residential Education is pleased to announce that Matthew S. Sinclair has been hired as the new Area Coordinator for Carmichael Towers. He served as the Graduate Assistant for Housing Assignments at Vanderbilt prior to his recent promotion. Before Vanderbilt, Matt held positions in Residence Life at Guilford College in North Carolina. We are very excited to have him join our team in a full-time capacity. TACUHO 2012 was held October 21 – 23 at Cumberland University in Lebanon, TN and jointly hosted by the Tennessee Chapter of the Association for Student Conduct Administration. The theme was “The Center of it All: Keeping Student Development at Our Core,” and our keynote speakers were Dr. Bob Huss and Dr. Diane Berty. There were a number of great programs presented by colleagues from across the state, the “Best Of ” went to Ms. Aja Rodriguez from Maryville College for her presentation of “Let’s Talk About Sex, College.” New state officers were SEAHO Report Winter 2013 41
