Student Affairs around the Region
the Interim Associate Dean of Students and Director
of Residence Life. DeAndre will be finishing out his
time as the SEAHO Representative for Virginia while
training a new person to fill his position.
Mindy Bliss has also taken on a new position at
Mars Hill University as the Interim Associate Vice
President for Student Development and Dean of
Students.
University of North Carolina School of the Arts
For the first time ever the North Carolina schools
that are currently implementing a Residential
Curriculum on their campus are coming together for
a Residential Curriculum State Drive-In Conference.
UNC Charlotte in partnership with UNC School of the
Arts are hosting this one-day drive-in Friday March
23, 2018 to discuss how we are working through
the implementation of the 10 Essential steps of a
Residential Curriculum.
Neighboring schools in South Carolina will also be
invited and we hope to have some special guests join
us in person or via skype to discuss best practices,
challenge us in our curriculum development and
encourage us through our journey. The details of the
drive-in will be posted on the NCHO website.
Wake Forest University
Wake Forest University's Office of Residence
Life and Housing has had a fall full of change
and excitement thus far! New staff members have
been hired, which include D'Najah Pendergrass
- Assistant Director of Residence Life, Chrissy
Feil - Residence Life Coordinator, and Lindsay
Sutton - Coordinator of Marketing and Operations.
Additionally, one of our staff members - Zach
Blackmon - has been promoted into a new role as
our Assistant Director of Operations. Construction
and renovations have become a constant on Wake's
campus. Residentially, this summer will mark the
beginning of the final renovation on Wake's "Quad"
and also provide updates/refreshes to several other
communities.
The Office of Residence Life and Housing couldn't
be prouder of our staff and students, who have been
recognized for their excellence. In October, RA
Kishan Patel was named RA Of The Month for the
state of NC. In November, Wake stepped it up and
had three winners: Shelby Halliman - RA Of The
Month, Jakayla Williams - Exec Board Member Of
The Month, Sarah Magness - Advisor Of The Month.
Zach Blackmon was recognized by SACSA as the
2017 New Professional of the Year, and James Byrd,
Director of Physical Security Technology and Deacon
OneCard, earned the Certified Protection Professional
certification from security organization ASIS.
We also are honored to have staff leading throughout
the region and field. Donna McGalliard is currently
serving as SEAHO's president and will transition
into the Past President role at the March conference.
Zach Blackmon serves SEAHO as its Technology
Coordinator, and as the AV/Technology Chair on the
SEAHO 2018 Host Committee. Stephanie Carter,
Director of Residence Life, serves SEAHO as the
chair of the Career Support Services committee.
James Byrd, along with Assistant Director of Housing
Wesley Todd presented at the ACUHO-I/APPA
facilities conference on the relationships and work
with our partners in Facilities and Campus Services.
As you can see, the Office of Residence Life and
Housing is doing great work both here on campus and
in the field at large! We couldn't be prouder of our
team members and look forward to a wonderful Spring
2018 semester.
South Carolina Update
Clemson University
Brian Davidson is the new associate director for
University Housing & Dining - Custodial & Building
Support. Brian graduated from Clemson University
with a degree in Management. He brings with him 25
years of experience in program facilities operations
and staff management.
