Virginia Updates Cont.

Sara Weinstein is joining our staff as the Down
Campus/First Year Student Coordinator in Residence
Life -- Sara comes to us from the University of
Houston - Victoria, where she has been working as
their the coordinator of Student Life since fall 2017.
Sara earned her M. Ed. in Higher Education from the
University of Houston-Victoria in 2018, and her B. A.
from Mary Washington University in May 2014.
Virginia Commonwealth University
Departures
Hall Director Monquell Middleton left Residential
Life and Housing to work with the Office of
Multicultural Student Affairs at VCU. Hall Director
Richard Parker left VCU to work in Residence Life at
American University.
New Team Members
Sherri Bryant joined VCU as a Desk Coordinator.
Sherri had previously worked at Randolph Macon
College.
VCU Residential Life and Housing rolled out a
Community Development Model based on individual
interactions. The model has four linear connection
points: 1:1 relationships between RAs and residents,
connecting residents to one another through shared
experiences, engaging residents in the larger VCU
community, and integrating residents to the larger
Richmond community. The community development
model strives to foster a sense of belonging and
connectedness to the residential community and VCU
at large.
VCU continues to see a high demand for on-campus
housing. The residence halls opened with over 100%
occupancy and one of the largest on-campus first-year
populations VCU has ever seen.

SEAHO Report Fall 2019

Living Learning Communities continue to be a
success at VCU. A total of 429 members of the firstyear class are participating in one of the 15 first-year
LLCs. The Sophomore Year Experience LLC entered
its second year with just under 400 participants.
Residential Life and Housing held an assessment
workshop in September for all professional staff
members and graduate assistants. Part of the workshop
was the development of measures for the outcomes
of the department's strategic planning goals. The
five strategic planning goals are: enhance the
residential experience through learning collaboration
and innovation, promote and provide leadership
development opportunities for students, promote
diversity and inclusion initiatives, promote responsible
departmental practices and stewardship of resources,
and maintain and enhance safe and inclusive
residential facilities.
University of Mary Washington
The Office of Residence Life and Housing at the
University of Mary Washington welcomed four new
staff members to the team over the summer:
Lee Roy Johnson, Area Coordinator
Megan Brown, Area Coordinator
Mary Taylor, Area Coordinator
Cecelia Burkett, Coordinator of Housing
Operations
In addition, John Hughey was promoted from Area
Coordinator to Assistant Director of Residence Life
and Housing.
