New York University, and Senior Associate Dean of Students and Assistant Vice President of Student Affairs at
Skidmore College. Social justice and equity have been at the core of his work throughout his career. His work
is informed by a black feminist ethos and a commitment to inclusion, care, and conversation. He has more than
24 years of experience in residential life and student affairs at a variety of institutions, both private and public,
secular and non-secular, large, mid-size, and small. Luis lends his voice and time to the association as the
2018-19, ACUHO-I Pathways to Success Director and the 2019-20 Director of the Leadership Academy. Fun
fact, Luis is a 1997 graduate of the inaugural RELI, the Regional Entry-Level Institute hosted by MACUHO &
NEACUHO.
He earned his bachelor's in Black Studies from SUNY New Paltz, his master's in Educational and
Psychological Development from Boston College, and his Ph.D. in the Educational Policy Leadership program
at the University at Albany, SUNY. His research focuses on the Latinx community and their academic
engagement. His pedagogical practice includes a commitment to narrative and storytelling. Luis is the son of
Maria and Jose Jimenez and identifies as a 40-something, 2.5 generation English-speaking Latinx, heterosexual,
cisgendered male, middle-class, grandfather, father of four+, husband, poet, and lover of life.
Luis will serve as a keynote address for SEAHO-U, a Case Study Competition Judge, and Faculty-in-Residence
for the conference. Be sure to check out his featured article in the pre-conference SEAHO Report.
Educational Grants:
Be sure to check out the SEAHO website for information related to our 2020 Educational Grants process.
We will also host an example grant request for those who are interested in receiving funding for a project or
initiative for their campus. Additionally, we are proud to offer "Jumpstart" Grants for those member institutions
who are seeking funding for a first-time program or initiative who otherwise would not be able to make that
event happen. More information will be posted on the SEAHO website around November 1.
Case Study Competition:
We are excited to introduce a mid-year case study competition! Below is the case study and instructions that
we hope you can participate in. This is a preview of what the case study competition will be in during the
conference for graduate students and new professionals.
We look forward to providing our SEAHO membership with more rewarding and thought-provoking
experiences when we convene in Louisville, Kentucky in February. As always, feel free to reach out to me if

As you are starting to make your preparations for the 2020 Annual Conference, the Research & Information
Committee would like to inform you of some excellent opportunities! Have you or a colleague engaged in
any kind of research or assessment? If so, consider nominating the study for the Outstanding Contributions
to Research Award! The study does not need to be scholarly nor approved by any institutional review board.
