LOUISIANA UPDATES
Louisiana State University: LSU has moved all courses
to online. LSU has approximately 1,285 student
remaining on campus. Community engagement
is continuing to progress through this pandemic.
Resident Advisors are connecting with students
via Zoom over meals and scheduled times. LSU's
Department of Residential Life implemented a
challenge over the next four weeks to keep all
remaining residents engaged in the LSU residential
community. Each day residents must complete a
simple, yet fun task to complete and post it to their
Instagram or Twitter account with a specific hashtag.
The resident with the most creative post at the end of
each week will win a fun outdoor game set. Here are
examples of tasks over a week: Mind/body Mondays
(Complete an outdoor activity or take a walk outside),
10 second Tuesdays (Show us your talent in 10 seconds
or less), Wacky Wednesdays (Draw or color a selfportrait), Throwback Thursdays (Watch a favorite
movie from your childhood), Spirit Friday (visit Tiger
Stadium), Strategy Saturdays (Share your favorite
video game), Savory and Sweet Sundays (Make or order
your favorite food for lunch). Additionally, renovations
of Highland Hall are scheduled to be completed by
Spring 2020 and the phase 1 construction of our
Greenhouse buildings are continuing to progress.
Furthermore, we are in the middle of staff recruitment.
Tulane University: Due to COVID-19, Tulane has
moved all courses to online instruction and is in a
period of dedensification of the residence halls to
promote social distancing. At this time, we have
approved approximately 200 students to remain
on campus and are maintaining limited dining and
face-to-face support services for those students. The
Division of Student Affairs and Housing and Residence
Life are also focusing on virtual support and resource
opportunities for students, such as virtual workout
classes, office hours/meetings, and engagement
activities. The University is moving forward with the
construction of two brand new residence halls to be
open in the fall of 2022. In terms of new hires, Housing
22
and Residence Life hired Andre Hebert as our Assistant
Director for Academic Initiatives, Curriculum, and
Assessment in February. Additionally, we are actively
recruiting for live-in Resident Directors to join the
staff this summer.
University of New Orleans: We are planning to
continue to provide housing and limited dining to
our residents who are unable to return home/ do not
have a safe home during the COVID-19 outbreak. We
currently have 25% of our students remaining in the
Residence Hall at this time. We are anticipating that
number to decline in the coming days. We have made
changes to our dining availability and process. The
meal is prepackaged and the students take it to go. We
are working on a consolidation plan as well. Credits of
25% of housing and dining charges should post to the
accounts of our students who checked out or relocated.
LSU Alexandria: Michael Courson has been hired as the
Director of Residential Life.
University of Louisiana Monroe: Is currently building a
new apartment complex that will house 300-400 beds
and will open in August 2020.
Southern University (New Orleans): Is in the
process of renovating a 700 bed apartment complex.
Additionally, are going through a departmental
restructure.
