Book Clubs and Reading Opportunities. Several individuals in certain regions, states, or areas have specific
higher education or residence life groups. Reaching out to these groups to either set up or join a book
club can help your professional development. A good example of a regional one is the Cincinnati Young
Professionals in Higher Ed group. This group has a book club that is focused on listening and reading
various topics over dismantling white supremacy/systemic racism in higher education. A lot of these books,
articles, and videos are available through public and university libraries.

Virtual Conferences, Ted Talks, and Webinars. Since there are a lot of restrictions of what can be done
in-person, a lot of conferences and webinars have changed to online formats. SEAHO was able to record
many presentations from the regional conference and post them on the SEAHO website for anyone to view.
ACUHO-I is also virtual, along with numerous other conferences. There are also a lot of applicable Ted Talks
that can inspire you, along with various virtual webinars that are posted on social media outlets.

Publish Articles, Blog Posts, or a Book. Sometimes, having the opportunity to be creative is a wonderful
outlet. Writing about experiences or various knowledge areas can be extremely helpful in not only
processing what is going on in your life, but it can also provide resources and/or support to other
professionals who can utilize it as a learning opportunity. You can try to publish something smaller, like a
blog post or an article.

Social Media Engagement and Blog Posts. Depending upon which social media outlet you prefer to use, you
can search for higher education, student affairs, or residence life groups. When joining each of these groups,
you can then engage with other professionals in those focus areas. For instance, you can add friends,
comment on posts, and post any questions that you might be seeking advice on from other professionals in
your field.
Committee Involvement in Professional Organization and/or University. You can connect with other
colleagues at your current institution to join various committees and work towards initiatives that inprove
the lives of the students at your institution. There are also various opportunities to join state-wide, regional,
or national committees through various higher education organizations. These committees are typically
focused on improving the group at large. These experiences can give you applicable skills to bring forward
in your current role or in future roles.

Connect with New and Old Colleagues. Professionals in higher education move around all the time to new
positions and new institutions. Connections can be made even when past colleagues work at different
institutions. Reaching out to those with whom you have not interacted recently and rekindling those
relationships is important. These connections can give you the opportunity to continue to stay invested in
