STATE UPDATES
Dana Mattern is the new Associate Director for
Conduct. Dana served in this role as the Interim
Associate Director for Conduct during the last year.
SOUTH CAROLINA
Coastal Carolina University
Coastal Carolina University is excited to share
professional staffing updates with the SEAHO region:
* Megan Grandey, Resident Success Specialist, joins
us from Centre College in Danville, KY.
* Lashaun Noel, Community Coordinator, joins us
from UNC-Wilmington in Wilmington, NC.
* Alexis McGarvey, Community Coordinator,
transitioned from her previous role within University
Housing at Coastal Carolina University.
University of South Carolina Upstate
New staff updates
Steven Groves joins USC Upstate as the Assistant
Director for Residence Education working with the RA
and DA staff (recruitment/selection/training), advising
the Association of Residential Communities, advising
the Residence Hall Honor Council and leading the
educational efforts in programming and with our
Living Learning Communities. Steven was most
recently at Southern Wesleyan University in Central,
SC where he served as Director of Housing.
Dillon Key joins USC Upstate as the Assistant
Director for Operations working with StarRez and
all things assignments as well as all of the financial
operations and website development of the
department. Dillon was most recently the Director of
Housing at North Greenville University in Tigerville,
SC.
We welcomed Cole Guidry this summer as one of
our residential life graduate assistants; Cole came to
us from Texas A&M University. He is the Hall Director
for Palmetto House and enrolled as a graduate
student in the HESA program at USC Columbia.
Lexi Richter serves as the residential life graduate
62
assistant for the Villas Community. Lexi is enrolled
at Converse College pursuing Master's degree in
Marriage and Family Therapy. Lexi had served as a
2-year RA at USC Upstate previously.
Montyia Cheeseboro rounds out the graduate
staff trio for Magnolia House. She is a senior at USC
Upstate and had previously served 2 years as an RA.
Lisa Southard also joined the staff in October as
the Office Manager. Lisa is a proud USC Upstate
graduate from 1993 and had worked at Upstate in
the Testing Center before joining the Housing and
Residential Life team.
Updates on our department
2021-2022 saw the rollout of several theme housing
units and a Living Learning Community. We have
partnered with our College of Nursing for a vibrant
LLC complete with a large program/study room. The
faculty in the Nursing program are engaged with the
department and we meet periodically to continue
to grow the housing option. We are most excited
that the two RA's on the floor are in the Nursing
program at USC Upstate. Additionally we have a few
theme housing options new to us this year including:
TRIO Community, an Alcohol and Tobacco Free
Community, Community of Scholars, The Transfer
Experience, a floor for Extended Quiet Hours and a
floor for Civic Engagement & Service.
USC Upstate is leading the way in the Big South
Conference with the creation of an Esports varsity
team. The equipment has already arrived and a club
is forming. Six of the gaming units will be located in
the residence hall starting in January for student use
and programming; this will lead to a Gaming/LARP
Community for 2022-2023.
We have been meeting with faculty and other offices
on campus and are excited to add to the above
options for our students with the following for 20222023:
