SEAHO Report - Summer 2023 - 4

SEAHO PRESIDENT
Hello SEAHO and Hello SUMMER!
Summertime is the best...perhaps I am a little biased as both my son and I
celebrate birthdays in June and July respectively and this summer I'm also
getting married (eek!). To say I'm both thankful and beyond excited would be
an understatement to say the least. Ok enough about me...long story short
whether you were ready for it or not, summer is here! With that being said, I
hope you find yourself enjoying whatever your summer has turned out to be.
Summer Meeting Recap...
In June, the Executive Board spent some time with the 2024 Host Committee
in Charleston, SC at the site of our upcoming annual conference. We are
super excited to get the membership body to Charleston after COVID took
that from us a few years ago. During the visit, we spent some time scouting
a few potential venues and of course making sure the business of SEAHO
got done! Take a trip back in time with me...back in March when I gave my
incoming Presidential speech I mentioned that I wanted to spend this year
focusing on creating more meaningful ways to engage the membership on all
levels. This is still very much on the forefront of my mind. Part of my update
at the summer meeting was flushing out some ideas that are percolating
on just this very thing. Get excited...I know I am!
Here is a quick glimpse inside our summer Executive Board meeting. Here are a few of the other topics that
were on our agenda/up for discussion:
* We chatted about some exciting new engagement opportunities which will be open to all of you to be
active participants in (more to come soon!) - Including a countdown to our 60th...
* Upcoming changes to our budget calendar
* The committee chair-select process/timeline
* Our website and what's to come
* Updates from the SEAHO conference site selection committee regarding the next few conference locations
* Our role (or not) as an association in the current events and trends affecting our region
* The vision for placement/on-sight interviewing
* And lots of other things...let's just say we had more topics than time to talk...
Chart (Y)our Course with us in Charleston, SC...
The Executive Board received an update on the status of 2024 conference planning from the Conference
Chair, Dr. Zach Blackmon. As part of that we continued conversations on how we plan to celebrate turning
60 in style! Just let that sink in...60 years of making an impact! 60 years of leading! 60 years of being a
professional home to so many! I also think it's important to note that both the Executive Board and the
2024 host team are thinking about the larger impact that being in Charleston may have on individuals.
We fully also acknowledge that Charleston, like many other cities, has a storied history. There is a plan for
acknowledgement that will take place during the conference as part of the association's commitment to its
own values and beliefs.
As we look forward to the start of a new Fall semester, may you embrace it with all the joy and excitement that
our first-year students usually arrive with! May your challenges not seem so daunting and your successes shine
as bright as the sun!
Until next time SEAHO!
Dr. Stephanie Carter
