SEAHO Report - Winter 2023 - 16
DIRECTOR OF COMMITTEES
DR. SCOTT RAUSCH
EMORY UNIVERSITY
Greetings SEAHO.
I first want to say that I am incredibly proud and sincerely thrilled to be
nominated and considered for the Director of Committees position for
SEAHO. When I came to the region fifteen years ago, I struggled to find
a place where I belonged, but after some encouragement and investment
from trusted colleagues, some truly amazing experiences, and many many
fantastic relationships, I can say that SEAHO found me and it is a match for the
ages. Though SEAHO is a more recent love of mine, my joy, satisfaction, and
commitment are strong for what I now claim as my professional home.
During the course of my career, I have had many opportunities to volunteer and serve on a number of levels.
My SEAHO journey started with working to host RELI in 2013/14, serving as RELI faculty and joining the
Corporate Partners Committee in 2019; presenting at the 2020 conference in Louisville; being Corporate
Partners Committee Chair selected for the virtual conference in 2021; then being Corporate Partners
Committee chair for our return to an in-person event in Asheville in 2022; and serving on the Program
Committee for 2023 conference in Richmond.
SEAHO committees are the heartbeat of the organization. Committees provide SEAHO members at all levels
the opportunity to participate, give back, and continue to make the organization the amazing professional
home that it is. The Director of Committees position serves as a liaison between the governing council
and their assigned committees. In that role they assist in membership recruitment, maintaining a balanced
committee agenda throughout the year, and informing committees of the governing council's expectations.
As a result, the Director of Committees operates as a springboard to SEAHO's committees and if selected I
would dedicate my time and energy to:
* Engaging in conversations with the committee chairs to ensure their membership represents and
actively includes the diversity of our region and organization;
* Inspire collaboration across all committees and push for innovation that moves SEAHO in a positive
direction;
* Telling the crucial story of committee work by sharing information with governing council and the
general membership regarding progress and committee successes. Instilling a sense of trust and
transparency in committee work;
* Advocate for committee-generated initiatives to directly relate to SEAHO's mission, vision, and
strategic plan;
* Encourage purposeful opportunities for SEAHO membership to invest, develop, and serve the
organization.
Over the last decade I have seen the power of SEAHO and its members to lead through difficult times, keep
members connected to their work, and thrive through adversity. Through this role, I would hope to continue
to foster our members' talents and experiences and provide opportunities to share those gifts with their
institutions, the region, and SEAHO itself. I am again honored and thank you again for your consideration.
