SEAHO Report - Winter 2023 - 25
* Once we lay the groundwork, there are
no changes that need to be made to the
module unless the policies change
* I have the receipts of the quiz grades if
students elect to break the policy in the
future- " you seemed to understand this
policy on September 18th when you passed
this quiz with a 90%- walk me through
why you didn't understand this policy on
September 19th when you snuck in the
building? "
* I'm not hosting super spreader events and
can go to bed as early as I want
Cons
* Students could cheat on the quiz if they
were to share answers with others
* Requires daily upkeep to create cases,
review student selections, process
outcomes, check quiz scores, etc.
* Students don't get any " face time " with a
conduct officer
* More administrative work on the frontend
to get things off the ground (course
development, learning how to sufficiently
use the technology, etc.)
DEVELOPMENT
As you might imagine, I elected to move forward with
the online module to address this problem. I called
this an " Educational Outcome " (or EO) and threw it in
under the umbrella of Alternative Dispute Resolution
options we have available in our conduct process.
Like most conduct folks I know, I live for my alone
time and I love improving systems with technologythe
EO was more my speed than the seminar and I
thought it was clear on paper that this was the better
option for students too. I set a goal for myself on my
annual evaluation that I would like to divert 200 cases
from standard adjudication using this method for the
2021/2022 academic year.
Resources Used
* Qualtrics
o Students were sent a link to a Qualtrics
survey in their letter where they input their
case number, student ID number, and
indicated their selection (EO or traditional
student conduct adjudication). If they
selected the EO, they were directed to
written and screenshot instructions on how
to self-enroll in the Blackboard course where
the module is located.
o Individual survey results are exported
and uploaded to the student's case file
so we have a record of their enrollment.
Submissions are then deleted on a daily
basis.
o Occasionally a student will select the EO
and not follow the enrollment instructions.
I manually enroll them and notify them that
they've been added via email or text and
reiterate their deadline of 5 business days
for the date of the initial letter to complete
the module and quiz.
* Maxient
o I created a new series of letter templates
for the EOs that only myself and the grad
students I supervise have access to:
- Educational Outcome Offer Letter
(sent at case creation)
- Educational Outcome Completion
Letter (sent at quiz completion)
- Educational Outcome Forward
to Conduct Officer (sent after 5
business days if EO is not complete
or if the student selected traditional
adjudication in Qualtrics survey)
o I worked with Maxient to create a new
sanction in our system
- This is a sanction that auto-marks
complete, as the Case Resolution
Form is completed after the student
has completed the EO. This sanction
was created purely for analytics and
tracking.
o I also added edited Maxient configurations
(ask a level 5 user for help on this one if you
don't have access!)
- Added a Resolution Type of
" Educational Outcome "
- Added a Finding of " Educational
Outcome- Visitation Module "
* Blackboard
