o I hadn't used Blackboard in almost 10 years and I had never used Blackboard as an instructor, so this was tough for me. I worked with our Blackboard administrator to create a course and used YouTube to help get me up-to-speed on content creation. emails from these student detailing how they " won't let me down " and " appreciate the opportunity to demonstrate that [they are] a good community member on campus. " It warms my heart and they usually hold to their word. o The Blackboard administrator for the campus had to manually turn-on selfenrollment for my course, so don't be afraid to ask! Self-enrollment saves me so much time administratively. o Individual quiz grades are exported as a report and uploaded to the student's case file so we have a record of quiz completion. Students are unenrolled from the course after they complete the quiz and their grade is exported so that there's a lower likelihood of answer sharing. o I added the grad students I work with into the course as TAs so they could also help in the processing of these cases THE RESULTS Here's how it's going: * The conduct officers in housing love me because they're seeing a lot less cases (and because I'm great, but mostly because of less cases) * The goodie-good students who might have never broken a policy before are absolutely scared straight by receiving a conduct letter and they don't get a conduct record right off the bat- I sometimes get very heartfelt * There was a super steep learning curve with parents in the Fall. Parents would call me very regularly and say how ridiculous it was that I was sending their student through the conduct process for a visitation violation. I had to explain to the parents that they should read the letter and that their student could, in fact, not get a conduct record if they did a little educational piece. Some were still upset, but many others felt very silly and apologized for having screamed at me for giving their student a " second chance " of sorts. 2021/2022 By the numbers... * 74.3% of first-time visitation violations have been resolved through the EO option * 43.6% of all Student Housing conduct cases have been resolved through the EO option * 92% letter open rate for first time visitation violation EO offer emails (average of 77% for all Student Housing cases) * Highest week for EOs: October 10-16, 2021 (34 EOs processed) * Average incident date to adjudication date for EO cases: Less than 5 days 26
