Creating a culture of accountability is critical for ensuring that care processes are effective and sustainable.
This begins with setting clear expectations for staff across all levels. Accountability measures can include
formalized expectations through guiding frameworks, regular staff evaluations, and creating a matrix of
responsibilities to avoid overlap or gaps in service.
Building accountability also involves transparency in reporting structures. For example, when a case is opened,
staff from multiple departments should be able to collaborate in real time, keeping the student's progress
visible to everyone involved. This prevents delays in care and ensures that all parties are working in harmony
to support the student. Additionally, regular review meetings can be held to evaluate how well the institution
is upholding its commitments to student care, allowing for adjustments in response to feedback from staff and
students alike.
Ultimately, fostering a culture of accountability helps create trust within the community. Students feel more
comfortable seeking help when they know that their concerns will be addressed consistently and thoroughly.
It also prevents burnout among staff by distributing responsibilities equitably, allowing for a more sustainable
approach to crisis management.

guiding questions - to consider what their current practices are, to explore what approaches are occurring at
other institutions, and to allow critical and creative thinking to flow toward solutions.
