The KC Leadership Group provided Men of Color attendees with a QR Code to complete an assessment and a link to join a pre-established GroupMe network to continue connections, celebrations, and support after the conclusion of the SEAHO conference experience. Some of the critical insights that were noticed in the data collected are reflected below: ● Men of Color representation from 45 different institutions ● 88.3% stated interested in being paired with a mentor ● 98.4% stated they would be interested in attending future virtual Kingz Collective lunch connections and professional development workshops The group gathered valuable insights through the assessment data collection to help identify mentorship needs and pairings, guide future professional development offerings, and develop strategies to enhance connection and belonging for Black and Brown men moving forward. One of the biggest gaps they noticed after the SEAHO experience and the transition into the summer housing season is that many high-ranking or highly involved leaders with ACUHO-I attended the annual Campus Home Live conference experience. Still, there was a definitive absence of entry and early professionals. They wanted to address that gap by implementing several initiatives addressing other surfaced concerns and needs voiced in the SEAHO Men of Color data collection and review assessed during the SEAHO Men of Color affinity space. The Kingz Collective Leadership Group developed and implemented frequent check-ins and community celebrations with the group and has launched several professional development sessions as a part of their monthly Barbershop Talk - First Fridays Series. They held the first Barbershop Talk virtual webinar in June 2024. There are always focused topic areas, but one of the key practices of the Kingz Collective is its core commitment to providing space for authentic engagement. Brothers will have questions or concerns, and they invest the time to create the space to address their concerns and needs. Their Barbershop Talk Series calendar has scheduled monthly professional development offerings through June 2025. In September 2024, they partnered with ACUHO-I's Black Professional Network to host a Black Men in Housing Webinar that featured a variety of seasoned professionals who gave insight into their respective journeys and pathways to overcoming barriers and strategies for career advancement.
