for the spring semester, once the group formed their general body. CD sought financial support for hosting successful programs. The board created a budget proposal that was approved by the Director of Residential Student Experience, allowing us to fund materials for events. In February 2024, Champions for Disabilities' first event was a collaboration event with a local Down Syndrome group where they invited members of the Down Syndrome Foundation of Tallahassee ages 11+ to come spend an evening on-campus and experience the college atmosphere! Through this program the CD board members and fellow student staff members were able to engage with individuals with Down Syndrome through board games, coloring, and sharing a slice of pizza. This engagement opportunity allowed our student staff to interact with individuals with intellectual disabilities not often on-campus, while giving the individuals with Down Syndrome the opportunity to experience being in a residence hall and seeing what a residence hall suite could look like if they came to college at FSU! Through this program, we had many student staff members share that they appreciated this experience and learned how successful programming can be completed with different abilities that may be on a floor. The caregivers of those who came to the event for the individuals with Down Syndrome, shared that they enjoyed the opportunity for their students to experience a real life opportunity of being in a residence hall for an evening and engaging with their peers and what living in a residence hall may look like!
