SEAHO Report - Summer 2024 - 4

SEAHO PRESIDENT
Hello SEAHO Family,
I hope this finds you all doing well, and that I may be among the first to wish
you a (tongue-in-cheek) Happy New Year!
We're all aware that the summer is not truly down-time for those of us working
in Housing. All of the administrative tasks and planning processes that take
place in May and June quickly become after-thoughts. If you had projects and
initiatives you were working on, I hope those were successful. Moreso, I hope
that you were able to find some time to engage in things and enjoy activities
that filled your cup and energized you for the upcoming year. As you all know,
July marks the start of our marathon season of trainings and openings leading
to August and the official beginning of the 2024-2025 academic year. Whether
this is your first or fortieth training and opening season, look for something
that excites you about this upcoming season and year. Even though you might
be experiencing something for the umpteenth time, someone (or many someones) in your sphere of influence
will be having their first experience - and we only have one shot to make that special and memorable.
I recently returned to Tallahassee (albeit for only a day) from Milwaukee where Campus Home. Live! 2024
was held. I have to say that I had a wonderful time participating in the activities during and around this
conference. It was great to see so many wonderful people - dozens and dozens of you hail from SEAHO - and
we were certainly well-represented. I thought I'd take a few moments to share what I experienced:
* During the meeting and among the discussions with leaders from all of the ACUHO-I regions,
SEAHO continued to shine bright among the regions as we were able to share impressive conference
statistics, strong involvement numbers, strategic initiatives, and healthy award and election seasons.
* There will be new, regular discussions occurring among leadership from the regions discussing
the purpose, reciprocity, value, and future of the regional Memorandums of Understanding with
ACUHO-I.
* A new Regional Leadership Summit (name pending) will be held this coming winter where the
President, President-Elect, Treasurer, and Regional Foundation Rep (tentatively) from each region will
gather with ACUHO-I leadership to discuss and plan how we can all better support each other and
our profession - I anxiously await the opportunity to share updates from this with you all.
* Lynda Wiley from ACUHO-I and Amanda Wright from the Higher Education Consortium for Student
Affairs Certification, along with myself, shared with the other regions how we are collaborating to
provide continuing education opportunities through our program slate at SEAHO 2025, and how
we will partner to educate our members and promote certification during the conference. SEAHO
has been in discussion for well over a year with how we can support this new initiative for which
ACUHO-I is a founding member.
* Two long-serving members of SEAHO. Dr. Shannon Staten of Florida State University and Countess
Hughes of the University of Virginia, were both inducted as members of ACUHO-I's Parthenon
Society. They were both caught completely unaware of the honor, and could not be more deserving.
Dr. Gerry Kowalski was presented with the ACUHO-I Award, and three other members of SEAHO
received awards - Jason Lynch (App State), Sophia Park (James Madison), and Justin Sanchez (Miss.
State).
* We had significant and noticeable involvement in a number of areas, including the ACUHO-I
Leadership Academy, the ACUHO-I Foundation, program presentations, and ACUHO-I leadership.
Y'all SEAHO is STRONG!
