SEAHO Report - Summer 2024 - 9
In order to ensure we have a diverse and holistic slate of conference programs, we need to have presenters
from all functional areas, institutional types and sizes, and professional experience levels involved in
submitting proposals. From our graduate student participants, to our mid-level professionals, senior housing
officers and corporate partners, everyone has an opportunity to share their experiences and knowledge at this
conference. Presenting at SEAHO Annual Conference provides a great networking opportunity for you
to collaborate with that new colleague that has just joined your team, a corporate partner you have
worked closely with to make a difference on your campus, or a colleague you connected with during a
previous SEAHO or conference experience! The possibilities are endless!
So what actually goes into completing your program proposal? Every proposal is going to start with a basic
idea or experience you have had that you would like to share with colleagues from across the region. Once
you have your idea, you will provide information relating to the following areas:
* Audience: Is this topic or idea better suited for graduate students, advancing new professionals,
mid-level professionals or senior housing officers? This decision will then drive the rest of your
proposal.
* Program Description: This is vital to your proposal because if your program is chosen for the
conference, this information is shared in the conference schedule and how participants will choose
which session to attend. A strong program description will present a clear picture of what to expect
in your session and why the member should choose to attend it.
* Learning Outcomes: You will be asked to share some learning outcomes that will serve as the
foundation of the session you would lead at the conference and identify what participants will take
back to their campus from your session.
* Program Outline: This outline will guide how you will utilize the time allotted for your session. A
clear outline helps to articulate how you will deliver the content of your presentation, how you will
pace yourself through the presentation and lastly how you will engage the audience.
It may seem like a lengthy process, but in reality a program proposal is very similar to the time you spend
creating team meeting agendas or facilitation guides for an upcoming group professional development
opportunity for your team!
One additional area that we wanted to highlight on the proposal form is the option to present your program
during SEAHO-U. SEAHO-U is a complimentary half-day pre-conference that will begin on Tuesday afternoon
and is a fantastic way for participants to connect and collaborate prior to the conference starting! This year the
theme is " Preparing U for the Future " and will focus on how our participants across all functional areas can
address issues such as staff retention, role modification, sustainable staffing practices and staff wellness.
Program proposals that align with these areas will be considered for both SEAHO-U and conference sessions.
If you are interested in presenting at SEAHO-U, please make sure to check this box on your proposal!
Each year the program committee's goal is to provide a slate of programs that targets a wide range of topics
and functional areas. This year, the committee is excited to share a refreshed list of topic areas to help ensure
we can provide a wide range of programs at the conference. As you will see in the chart below, some of our
topic areas have stayed the same, some topic areas have been enhanced, and there are even a few new topic
areas for you to consider as you prepare your proposal.
