SEAHO Report - Winter 2024 - 15

* Collaborative: Invite specific committee chairs, executive board members, or host committee
members as guest speakers to State Representative meetings as needed to increase lines of
communication outside of annual conference and mid-year meetings.
* Innovative: As the role of State Representative can look different in every state, meet with each state
board at least once to better understand the needs of each unique state structure and culture.
* Ethical: Be transparent with the State Representatives about their role on the Governing Council,
their expectations, and what I am doing in my work on the executive board to elevate their voices
and the voices of their state institutions.
Thank you for taking the time to read my statement, I greatly appreciate your consideration. My greatest hope
is for the State Representatives to have an excellent Director. I believe my experiences and work ethic indicate
my ability to be that excellent Director.
Corey Ulloa
Hello SEAHO!
I'm excited to be considered for the SEAHO Director of State
Reps position. I love SEAHO and the connections it makes and am
excited for the possibility to continue to do this as the Director of
State Reps.
As I attend my 6th
SEAHO conference this year, I see the ability to
help the region grow by supporting the states and their schools. In
my role as Florida's State Representative for SEAHO, I got schools
(especially small schools) more engaged in the state of Florida
and I hope to bring this passion to the region to support all the
SEAHO states. The role of the Director of State Representatives
is to liaise between the SEAHO Governing Council and the ten
SEAHO State Representatives (including treads, issues, and
information). The Director of State Representatives' responsibility
is to inform the State Reps of SEAHO activities, deadlines, and
opportunities to get more involved. I will collaborate with the
State Representatives to learn the common trends in the states to
allow the SEAHO President to better support the issues occurring
in many states.
In this position, I would be able to help states connect,
communicate, and collaborate. In my two years as a State Representative, I connected 5 new schools to
SEAHO as well as with other schools in the state of Florida by linking their Senior Housing Officers (SHO)
to other Senior Housing Officers in the state. I increased communication in the state among the Senior
Housing Officers and created resources for schools in the state to share. I created a drive for our state to
share resources including training materials and plans, recruitment materials, and store recordings of our state
meetings.
My two main goals in this position are to better connect the states to each other while also connecting them
to SEAHO. I would do themed monthly calls/virtual meetings with the state reps to help them collaborate on
critical pieces of their roles/ their states (state conferences, school involvement, listservs, new member reach
out, etc.) to build the bridges between what some states do well, and areas other states are looking to do
better. I would also connect the states to SEAHO with regional opportunities. I would communicate with a
monthly update that state reps can use for their constituents to ensure they know of all the things that SEAHO
is doing (committee membership and meetings, SEAHO report articles, awards, nominations, programs, etc.).
SEAHO is only possible through its member institutions and the staff, and I believe it's important to get the
staff involved to continue to make our region the best in the country.
I have been fortunate to be a part of many involvement opportunities in my state and the region that have
helped prepare me for this role.
