student affairs around tHe reGion CONt. this summer from The University of Georgia is Tiffani Skandier, who has accepted the internship with our Summer Conference Staff; and coming from The University of Florida is Falon Thacker, who has accepted the internship with Residence Life. We look forward to their arrival and are excited to create the best experience possible for them. Along with the new professional and internship hiring, we have begun our search processes for two new Graduate Assistant Hall Directors, as well as for one confirmed and one anticipated Hall Director vacancies. Beyond these staffing updates, we have also been busy with new initiatives and partnerships across our campus. First, our new Police Chief, Jason Willis (who joined us last semester from Miami University - Ohio), has begun a Community Police Liaison program similar to what he created at his previous institution. Within this new initiative, each of our residential areas has been assigned two Officers to develop programming with our Housing staff as well as create relationships and redefine their presence within our communities. We are confident this program will help educate our residents on the multitude of resources our Officers provide us. Second, in conjunction with several offices across campus, we have created four new communities within our Residence Halls that will commence in Fall 2011: a Nursing community specifically designed to accommodate the needs and academic pursuits of students within that department will be in our University Suites; with the Office of African American Student Affairs, an NKU ROCKS community will be hosted in Callahan Hall that will be open to students who are enrolled in this particular mentorship program; in partnership with International Student Affairs, an Intercultural Living Learning Community that will offer American and international students the unique opportunity to live together within an intentional community in our Woodcrest Apartments; and lastly, we have the creation of a new Greek community for the brothers of Sigma Phi Epsilon that will also be hosted in Callahan Hall. Greetings, SEAHO, from Northern Kentucky University! Like all of the institutions in our region, we have been very busy and would like to take this time and opportunity to provide updates for all that has been going on within our department. To begin with, we would like to take a moment to welcome a new staff member that joined our office in February. Dan McGill is our new Housing Operations Specialist. He has replaced former Specialist Hilary Blakemore who left us for another opportunity at the University. Dan works with our Housing Operations team to oversee the housing contract assignments, room change process, and supervise the Student Specialists that work in the Housing Office. Also, Dan is working to complete his Master of Arts in Communications at NKU. Welcome, Dan! NKU is also proud to partake in the ACUHOI Summer Internship program for the second year in a row, and we are happy to announce that we have secured two interns.
