Lafitte Village is a 120 unit facility consisting of both one and two bedroom apartments. The facility will be open to full-time enrolled married or single students with dependent children. Each unit is unfurnished and will include utilities, cable television, pest control and maintenance service. Coin operated laundry services will be available on-site. UNO is anxiously waiting the re-opening of Lafitte Village. Mississippi State University • Mississippi State University is proud to announce that Sara Heiman, a 2nd year Residence Director has been chosen to receive a Spirit of State Award. The ‘Spirit of State’ Award formally honors those students who have excelled in campus involvement, service to the university, and have made an impact on their peers and the broader campus community. Winners will be recognized for their outstanding ‘Spirit of State’ contributions at a public ceremony to be held on Friday April 8th. Three of Mississippi State University’s residence halls were included in a list of the Best 14 Residence Halls in the Country. The list was composed by the Campus Splash network as part of their Dormy Awards, given in conjunction with the launch of their new offshoot website DormSplash. Hurst Hall, Griffis Hall and Ruby Hall were all included on DormSplash’s list of the best Residence Halls. Ratings were based on student reviews and scored out of five. Hurst Hall came in fifth with a score of 4.5, Griffis Hall was 10th and Ruby Hall was 11th, both with a score of 4.3. Reviews are based on room Mississippi Updates size, cleanliness, parking, convenience, bathrooms, kitchens, study environment, social scene and staff. Hurst Hall and Ruby Hall also were ranked on the website’s list of Residence Halls with the most attractive residents. University of Mississippi Ann Morgenstern from the University of Mississippi has accepted a position with StarRez in Denver, Colorado. We wish her well in her future endeavors. The University of Southern Mississippi The University of Southern Mississippi is pleased to welcome Dr. Scott Blackwell as the new Director of Residence Life. Dr. Blackwell will begin his time with the University on April 8, 2011 as Dr. Chris Crenshaw has become the new Director of the Physical Plant. Megan Dutton, a Southern Miss Hall Director was recently elected the AD for NRHH at SAACURH-Congratulations Megan! Stephen McCay, a Southern Miss Hall Director, concluded his brief term as the Director of NRHH at this year’s No Frills Conference after doing a tremendous job.
