student affairs around tHe reGion CONt. Education (Student Affairs emphasis) master’s program at Clemson, Glenn enjoys helping students develop and grow into responsible citizens. Prior to Clemson, Glenn graduated from Winthrop University in 2009 with a Bachelor of Science degree in Biology. We are excited to have Glenn on staff! position. Melissa will oversee our summer housing program. Finally, we are gearing up for an exciting 2011-2012 academic year. We will be establishing two new living learning communities that focus on leadership and student transitions as well as opening a new facility called Oakland Mills. Oakland Mills will offer our students, for the first time, apartment style living. The building is located across the street from main campus and has been converted from an old cotton mill into apartments. College of William and Mary Coastal Carolina University Coastal Carolina is hosting the annual South Carolina Organization of Residence Education (SCORE) in April. Coastal will also be hosting the South Carolina Housing Officers Association (SCHOA) Annual conference in October. Please join us in congratulating and bidding farewell to Danny Hoover, Area Director at the College of William and Mary. Danny has accepted a position in the Dean of Student’s office at Florida Gulf Coast University and will be doing student conduct. Virginia Updates Winthrop University The Department of Residence Life is preparing to host our 2nd annual WU-Cycle event. This is a campus wide initiative that promotes sustainability by allowing students, faculty and staff to de-clutter their home and provide an opportunity to help other students, faculty and staff find items they may want or need. Items are dropped off at a central location and then arranged and offered free of charge to the campus population and selected local agencies first, then to the general public. Any items not taken by the end of the day are donated to a local charitable organization. James Madison University Departures: The JMU ORL staff wishes Wes Hillyard much success as he leaves his position as a Full-Time Hall Director at JMU for new challenges at Northern Virginia Community College. New Staff: JMU ORL welcomes Cindy Leake, our new Administrative Assistant in the Business Operations office! We are happy to welcome Chris Evans as the new hall director in Chesapeake Hall. Chris completed his undergraduate work at JMU, and returns to us from UNC School of the Arts in Winston-Salem, North Carolina. Community Service: 3 full-time staff members took part in Alternative Spring Break trips this year: Newberry College The Office of Residence Life at Newberry College has had a great year! We have instituted new residential education initiatives including an intentional conversations piece and our preliminary assessment indicates the initiatives are effective! For the second summer in a row, we will be hosting an ACUHO-I intern.
