W
hen you walk
into a cardiac
rehabilitation
facility, stories
are everywhere.
The grandmother who has
committed to walking one more lap
around the track for her grandkids
or the husband who isn't going to
let heart disease prevent him from
taking his wife on a trip for their
30th anniversary.
The staff have stories too. The
nurse who is devoted to helping
others after her father died of a
heart attack. The receptionist who
knows the name of every patient
who walks through the rehab
doors. Whatever the story, one
thing is evident - cardiac rehab
improves lives.
Customized Technology
Even with improving lives at the
forefront, changes in healthcare can
at times strain resources. Clinicians
are finding themselves spending
more time behind a computer than
with patients.
According to the American Hospital
Association's study performed
by PricewaterhouseCoopers,
paperwork can add more than
30 minutes to every one hour of
patient care.

The one-size-fits-all model
no longer works for rehab
technology. Selecting the right
telemetry equipment for your
cardiopulmonary rehab can help
streamline documentation and put
clinicians back to working handson with the 100,000+ patients
recovering from heart attacks and
chest pain in the U.S. this year.
Customizable technology solutions
are just one of the many ways to
enhance the patient-care process
by allowing providers to do what
they love most - improving the life
of their patients.
Tracking Outcomes
Streamlined technology also
serves as a key way to track
patient outcomes. With a 30%
cardiovascular disease mortality
risk reduction and a 31% drop in
readmissions, cardiac rehab is one
of the best buys in medicine.
However, in order to use data
to continue to prove the value
cardiopulmonary rehab, you have
to track it. Since the launch of the
AACVPR Registry it has become
clear that outcomes-based
measurements reinforce the fact
that cardiac rehab improves lives.

Driven by results, programs
that track through the Registry
are able to evaluate and make
improvements - enhancing their
patient care. These programs are
dedicated to improving lives.
Industry Advocacy
Improving lives goes beyond the
numbers. Last May, the ACSM
World Heart Games were held in
Charlotte, NC. After watching heart
patients compete in Olympic-style
events, one thing was evident.
When patients and clinicians
come together, everyone's lives
are improved.
Patients who had once entered
a cardiac rehab program with a
degree uncertainty have emerged
to reclaim their lives. The World
Heart Games empowered patients
to improve their own lives and share
their stories with fellow patients.
Our industry needs passionate
advocates to come together to
support the life-enhancing work of
cardiac rehab.
Whether through customizing
technology, tracking outcomes
or advocating for the industry, it
is clear together, the cardiac
rehab industry is dedicated to
improving lives.
