MESSAGE FROM >> THE PRESIDENT

A Look Ahead
Todd M. Brown, MD, MSPH, FAACVPR

I

t is with great pleasure that I take
over as your AACVPR president.
Over the past year, under Tom
Draper's tremendous leadership,
AACVPR has been incredibly
successful. We have seen growth
in membership and joint affiliation
and have embarked on a brand
new initiative, Roadmap to Reform,
which is helping position us well for
the future.
As we prepare for a new year, our
Board of Directors has just completed
the strategic planning process that
will help shape our association's
priorities over the next three years.
We have selected three major focus
areas: membership, value-based
care, and science and outcomes.
With membership and valuebased care, we will build upon our
successes over the past few years.
We will continue to examine the
value of AACVPR membership, and
explore novel ways to maximize it.
As an extension of our Roadmap to
Reform initiative, we will continue to
explore innovation in how we deliver
cardiac and pulmonary rehabilitation

services to keep us competitive and
successful in this new era of valuebased care.
We also plan to capitalize on
the success of our cardiac and
pulmonary rehabilitation registries
by focusing on science and
outcomes. Participation in the
registries has been increasing,
and our retention rate is high. It
is time now to begin to leverage
these data for bigger things. We
have begun the process to find
academic collaborators to explore
research opportunities within these
registries and to explore additional
opportunities to collaborate with
the scientific community as we
advance the science of cardiac
and pulmonary rehabilitation.
I am looking forward to an
exciting year. As we are all
aware, the current health-care
landscape is changing rapidly.
With this change, however, comes
opportunity. I think our association
is well positioned to respond
to these opportunities and
strengthen our profession. 

Our association is well positioned to
respond to these opportunities and
strengthen our profession.
